95 gt vs 89 gta at raceway last nite

sup y'all, took my gta to the track for the first time yesterday, only had it a couple weeks, went with my friend who has a 95 'stang gt (a/t).

we are both stock and just wanted to get a time to see where we are at. i don't have a lot of track experience, and i don't know my car very well yet, but this is what we ran.

me: 15.35@90

him: 15.75@80

i'm assuming i suck and need to work on my strategy a bit, what should i be closer to?

also, i figured we'd be a lot closer being that he has 215hp and i have 225, i do have the cube and torque advantage by a bit, but mine weighs more.

i think we both should've had better times, right?

You both should have done better, but that depends on conditions. What was the temp, elevation, and traction like? It looks like your friend, and maybe you let off at the top end. If he is only trapping 80mph, he has something wrong, even stock my car trapped 91-92!

If you guys were spinning badly, maybe it is time to get some tires, also, let me know the rest of the timeslip, like 60 foot, 1/8, and such, the whole thing, that way we can see what it looked like!

80 mph is horribly low for his car. Either he was letting it shift into OD or something is wrong with his car.

temp was about 91, i was sweatin' crazy in the car. traction was good, but only caz i was too cautious off the green and had lousy reaction times, i think we both let off at the top end.
i'm not used to keepin' the pedal to the mettle for that long, fear of fawkin' the car up i guess.

my 60' was 2.341
reaction time was 2.114, doh.

which is my 1/8? the slip has my reaction time and then like I1, I2, I2, I3 (MPH) followed by the E/T.

The heat will for sure hurt your time. 80 mph for that stang means he was burning the tires and with your mph you should be running a little faster than you are.

correction on my friends mph, his 15.75 was @86mph
(he had a bad first run of 17.1@80)
i asked him to make sure, my bad.

so what should we both really be running at?

"and with your mph you should be running a little faster than you are."

so what might i be doing wrong?

thanks for the tips y'all.

That's what I'd expect. Especially on a hot day. Kind of diappointing isn't it? That's why craftsman invented the wrench though. It sounds like you've been bit with the bug.

86 mph is still slow for that car. Him letting off on the top end would make sense as to why he ran such a low mph. Even bone stock in that sort of weather, he should be running around 90 mph.

Both of yall should have ran faster than you did, but it takes practice and experience more than anything. Keep plugging away at it.

You both should be much faster. An L98 is not a 15 second car good luck, maybe start with basic stuff like a K&N and a catback.

Okay, you live in Hill Valley, is it a hill (high elevation), or a valley (low elevation)! If you are over 1000 foot elevation I could see your slip, but not his. I raced a stock L98 and he went 14.8 at 1000 foot elevation. Try a tune up and see if that helps!

I do plan to mod it eventually, the whole point was just to go and get a stock time, see where i'm starting at.

"Okay, you live in Hill Valley. .."

Actually that's just a fictional city from back to the future, i live in a normal nice climate city, sacramento.

dads 95 auto GT doesnt spin much at all so i doubt that was his problem...his car has some decent tires on it and it will spin just a little and barely jump sideways.

yah he didn't spin much, maybe for a few feet and a chirp. i think he just let off early towards the end maybe, i dunno.

as for me, i think i can do better than 15.3, i know the car is running good, just need practice i guess.
