About reported times......

Let me start by saying this is not directed at any person or persons, just an observation. When we talk about our cars, as well as the competition's, whoever that may be, 1/4 mile and 0-60 times appear about as common as the word "the". Soon thereafter, without fail, someone says, "well, those times were recorded by professional drivers, so they're not that fast on the street". Of course they're professionals. When we compare cars (not drivers), aren't we concerned with what the car itself is theoretically capable of? Sure, if you're talking about a specific race, such as "me vs. the dumbass down the street who can't shift", you need to factory in the ability of the driver. But more often than not, we are simply comparing the machines themselves, so professional testing methods administered by experienced drivers should be the order of the day. The only real reason those numbers may be dubious is the presence of factory 'ringers' tuned for the purposes of producing artificially inflated (or is it deflated) times at the track. That's why I'd rather look at a long-term type test, where the car is chosen from a dealer. But in any case, when comparing cars, e.g., "Neons blow compared to Thirdgens", keep in mind that we're talking about the the mechanical capabilities of the vehicle themselves.

In any case, any thoughts on the new SS concept? Possible F-body replacement?

That's why I say when 2 cars are equal from the factory with great driver's and there might be a race, I say it will be a driver's race. Both cars are about equal, but it will come down to the better driver.

I've been trying to get that point across for a year now.

Brian : I almost had you!!
Vin : You had me, you didnt have your car....

I think something along the line was said like that
anyway Marks right is saying its going to be a drivers race!

i beat a 1989 iroc-z 5.7 with a 5 speed (of coarse modded)!! in my 1988 formula 350 auto (just a k&n, airfoil, and flowmaster muffler)....

he should of beat but i beat him fair and square by about 1 car length...

Yes I agree with the comment about alot of racing being about the drivers. I have won my share of races that I shouldn't have because the other guy couldn't drive. And after that I have came to the conculsion that street racing is about 70% car and 30% driver. (Even John Force in a Geo is going to lose to a ***** in a TT Supra) But people always tell me how fast their car is and then I tell them "Sure your cars fast but do you know how to drive it?".

It's hard to get people to admit that they can't race a car as well as you can. Even if they say their car is faster than yours and you beat them, they still won't admit your a better driver.

There are just somethings people can't do just admit it. I mean I can't rebuild an automatic transmission, (just can't do it) but I'll admit it. Since you guys are using car movie quotes here's mine. "You can't drive, **** I know I can't swim thats why I keep my black *** out of the pool." Gone in 60 seconds (new one, the orginal was way better)

Later, Garrett

I absolutely agree, drivers are the equalizer, I was just commenting on the dicussions that occur about the merits of the car itself.
