well by the comparisons of the two cars you should take him, it sounds like his car is in bad shape. that many miles of neglect would put a strain on any engine, and if he has only 30% tire tread he probably cant hook up anyway. are you racing to speed or stop lights? your car should have a 115 speed limiter but by the time you get to that speed it might not matter.
