dodge srt-4 vs. accord (lol)

ok, im sorry this isnt a camaro third gen race story, but it is a honda 3rd gen story.

my friend has an 89 accord lx, with a weber carb, header, highflow cat, muffler, and a coil. stock the poor car only had 98 horses...

so anyways, last night on our way home from work, this dodge srt-4 comes up next to us. my friend has a pretty loud exhaust, so we go flyin up on the srt. the guy looks over then gives his car a little gas and zooms by. so we pull up at a light, and i ask the guy if he did anything to the car (cause it sounded nice and had dual exhaust). he says it jus stock. so the light turns green and we both take off kinda slow, then my friend gives it some gas and try's to pass him...he wasn't standin for it. he nails it and his car jus spins the tires a lil bit and launches. i was verry impressed. it didn't even sound like a 4-banger.

so has anyone goneup against one of these yet?

i did a lil research, and found out they have a 2.4l dohc 16 valve 4 cyc that produces 215hp and 245tq. they are gettin 15lbs of boost off their intercooled turbocharged setup. very nice indeed for under 21k.

i definately want to run against one of these cars. maybe buy one to play with too.

I messed around with one somewhere in NC on my way home from FL. I had everything in my sig except for no smog, advanced timing, and my underdrive pulley because i didnt want any charging issues while away from home. I thought it would beat me good but he was pulling slightly and mine didnt kick down like usual. Even if it would have kicked down the best i think i could have done was keep it even. So it beat me and im sure it was stock. They have a lot of topend. I'm glad dodge has something fast again that people can afford. I cant wait to see them with some mods.

I wished I had my 85 IROC so I could run one. My car should have been in the high 13's if I could hook. Would put me in the same area as an SRT-4 stock.

Give it a year or two and you can probably pick up a used 30-40,000 mile SRT-4 for around 10k I bet.

PVO underrated those engines by about 20 horses or so. Everyone I talk to about the SRT-4 mentions the Omni GLH. It's actually kinda cool to see an American car (a Neon, no less!) beat the import sport compacts at their own game. And $19,995 is actually pretty cheap for a new car. Mopar Performance is going to have three upgrade pacakages for it too, so I don't find it hard to imagine it could be deep in the 13's, with a factory warranty, to boot! Not only that, but the chassis has been stiffened significantly, so that as an all-around performer, a thirdgen would have to have some serious oomph to beat it around a racetrack, or down your favorite twisty two-lane, take your pick.
