Read for some laughs...This one felt good even though it was GM vs. GM
Bought my first 3rd gen ( 89 t-top Formula 350 ) car for 700.00. I had nothing but a grin from ear to ear driving it home. Why so cheap? Mechanically the car is in tip top shape but the body had been merged into by a semi taking out the passenger door, fender and some qtr dammage. You could actually see the the circular rubber marks from the semi tires!!!!
Ok, now you have a visual of my car, now comes the good part!!
A guy pulls up next to me in a beautiful corvette with a pretty lady at his side.
I was just looking over admiring his car, but he must have thought otherwise cuz he nailed it from a stop!!!
With my delayed reaction I didnt think I had a chance but quickly started gaining ground on him and ultimately blew his doors off!!
Afterwords, I just wanted to ask the guy what he had but he was not in a talkative mood as he ignored me. LOL!!! I think it was a crossfire motor.
For some more laughs, I took the car to have the emissions done and had everyones attention with the dammage but I quickly turned thier attention to what was under the hood.
The guys at the emission place were so impressed with my results of the test ,as well as the price I paid, ( passed with flying colors of course) that they insisted that I do a happy patch upon exiting. To that I said..... Happy patch???? Then they pointed to the series of rubber marks on the street. OHHHHHHH I said...... HAPPY PATCH!!! They were all high fiving each other as I left going sideways
After two years I returned to the same emissions site, now with mods, and the same crew was there again to marvel at the transition and, of course, request another HAPPY PATCH!!! I've never had so much fun with a car till I scored this one!!!

He said it was probably a Crossfire engine... If it is the case, I don't see why he would have lost. Crossfire are ****...

I wanted to make sure I rememberd correctly so I did a google on crossfire injection corvettes and the way I knew it was a crossfire was:
1. The words " crossfire injection" were on the fender
2. I beat the guys pants off ( I have heard that the cross fire, otherwise called "misfire", is not the greatest regarding performance)
I have no delusions of granger of how fast my car is, I just thought it was funny that the all show and no go vette dude, pretty lady at his side, was taken for a walk with my 700.00 ( before mods) side swiped, beat-up lookin formula 350.
I still think the car has great potential for an every day, smile ride as it has been improving with every mod. ( $3000.00 + and still counting)
Thanks to the architect of TGO and all who provide invaluable input!!!! This site is awesome!!!
Lastly, I didnt want to start putting down the cross fire as I have actually done some reading on it and understand that if modified it can be a decent platform.
Otherwise, if stock, I have read that the performance and fuel distribution characteristics of the cross fire are weak.

Nice vette kill...
I feel bad for all the suckers who own 84 corvettes. They almost have to know that they got one of the weakest vettes ever made. We got a local guy here that thinks his 200hp crossfire injection vette is the shiznit. We smoked him in my buddies escalade with 5 people in it... We broke that poor guys heart

i have a similar story about the third gen i drove. I was 19. I originally bought this 92 teal rs with t tops for my sister, but it had a head gasket leak and overheating problem so I was going to replace the motor and give it to her for 200 bucks over what I had into the project. less that 3000 dollars total investment. Truck 355, strongly built 700r4, and the stock TBI system was the plan. all went well, but just before the project wrapped up she found a 72 skylark for 2800.
Now I had a thirdgen. I got it emission tested, and the guy never knew it wasnt a 305. Naturally I decided to race it and naturally that led to a nitrous kit, and all was well. I took it to the track to test and tune, running a 13.24 pass that was the cars best.
The next friday night I decided to take the thirdgen to the races in kent to unleash the new kit on the import nuts. It was awesome. I ran with the FASTEST cars, I mean skylines, SR20DET 240sx's, turboed everythings. The next night I was going to go back because the local supra club was supposed to make an appearance.
The next night, I was hit by a woman driving recklessly in a minivan while I turned left with a car full of girls less than 5 blocks from home. I got the poor thing home, but the suspension was ****ed, and the whole left side was bashed in. The minivan was high up so the frame miraculously wasnt damaged.
I made arrangements to get the front wheels facing the right direction and took it to teh shop. The guy at the shop said he couldnt believe i drove it so far, as the wheel would thrash wildly from left to right and the car would dart around as each front wheel fought for traction. (they were at like opposing angles)
When all was done I had a wrecked thirdgen with 1 day left on the trip pass, and a need to be tested at freeway speeds. I picked up a friend, he crawled in through the broken window, and we took off for the freeway. As soon as we merged near the tacoma Narrows bridge, we noticed a Integra type R with dealer plates still intact. Bone stock. I didnt have my bottle, but hey, we need to test it at speed right? we got up next to him and raced across the bridge. I hella pulled on him going up the bridges slope, and by the crest I had pulled 1 1/2 car lengths. As the road flattened out and started sloping down, I stopped pulling , and then I hit the wall. 115, a car length on an awesome japanese sports car, and i hit the wall. I bet he only raced me cuz he saw I was wrecked. but it was a great race. If only I had eliminated the speed limiter. In all I only made like 10 runs on nitrous, and the engine only has 12000 miles on the rebuild. she sits in my basement, waiting for ressurection.

LoL.....whatever slick... Listen, the place IS run by a bunch of teenagers, about my daughters age, Oh yeah, and about your age...
I'll go a little slow for ya... so pay attention....
1.) It was not during peak hours and the kids workin the place were basically goofing off because there was nobody in the bays to test.
2.) I live in "Plainfield" the name sez it all. Not much for the kids to do around here for fun.
3.) I didnt coin the phrase " Happy Patch" and thought it was pretty stupid at first until I gave it some thought. Looking back I have had three cars, prior to getting married and having kids, that were all heavily modified and struggled with pasing emissions, many times to the point of loosing the priviledge to drive.
So why wouldnt somebody be happy to get the EPA off thier back and lay a patch of rubber to show it?
You of all people, living in CA, should understand this.
4.) It's been 15 years since I sold my SS and and have been kickin myself in the *** ever since. Bought this one cuz the price was right. Didnt really care for the 3rd gen cars when I was growing up but now that I own one and have been wrenching on it, with much help from this site, I cant stop throwing money at it.
With that said, ive been getting into this site and thought someone might get a few laughs regarding what has happened to me since Ive owned the car. Sorry you didnt...
5.) Life is too short for me to waste my time BSing people.
And a quick reminder, BTW, Disneyland is in......... Well, you know where you live.

Anyway, when I responded, I was already in a bad mood when I came home as I had just finished replacing my father-in-laws in tank fuel pump on a 2000 Merc ( This is on mothers day). He had just filled it with gas when it took a dump. So with both barrels loaded, I fired away.
I have since calmed down.
Im just glad they didnt river dance after I blazed a trail. Nobody would ever believe me then.
On a side note, what I didnt disclose is that shortly after I got spanked by my nieghbors LS1 TA. Thats is what started this whole train a rollin.
The drive train is finished, just working on getting it to hook-up and stay together. ( Got my SFCs from Lon a couple of weeks ago but havnt had the time to put them in as this is a hobby for me and with a family.... well you know). Anyway, more to come will post results when the suspension and tune is final.
Heres a pic of my motor.

That motor is awesome. Sorry for the confusion.

A bus? From what I was told, from the person that sold it to me, no. But I'll humor you....
Yeah!!!!! It was a bus, with bright colors all over it!!!! It had a picture of a bird on it. I think it was a seagall, possibly a pigeon or maybe even....... a partridge!!! Yeah!!! Yeah!!! that was it!!!
And there was a group of kids inside of it singing.... Hello world is the song that were singing.... Come on get Happy!!
All of the sudden..... Bammm!!!!! Screeeeeech!!!! and to top it off, after I pulled over to look at the car, they just kept on driving!!!
Bastards!!!!!!
Regarding the "old dude" never mentioned he was old but anyway...... It was funny, but I never said I was happy nor content as my post regarding my neighbors LS1 explained. Probably will not be content when I'm done with this project either.
I'ts that damn human nature that always gets in the way.

Don't wanna steal your thread, just want to add to it. A bunch of
years ago, late at night, I was headed to my shop at the time, and
ended up next to an 85 'vette at the stoplight. I was in my 55 Belair
(very well built 355, manual valve body 350, 12 bolt) that runs
13.00 without nitrous through muffs and on radials, 12 flats with
a little chemical assistance. Now, my lane merged in about an
eighth of a mile, so unless something broke, he'd be seeing my
taillamps. I had a hard time getting him to race, pumping the gas
pedal up and down to make my front end hop, until finally he
decided to play. Anyway, he saw my taillights off in the distance...
Instead of me seeing his headlights, I saw a red and blue flashing...
This was in Glendale, Az where the local law enforcement likes
to boost their revenue by handing out invitations to donate to their
cause....I figured I was dead. Indeed, the officer in question told
me the list of tickets he could write me, as well as an armed escort
to the local lockup. Instead, he did a full inspection of the vehicle,
underhood, trunk, interior and undercarriage(!), and made sure I
had not imbibed any of the devil's brew-then told me: "Nice ride,
I love to see the classics whip the new ish, now get outta here-
but do me a burn-out when you go!"
A year or so later, he ended up being a customer of mine, we
built him an Anglia pro street cruiser.....

eighth of a mile, so unless something broke, he'd be seeing my

I bet he only raced me cuz he saw I was wrecked. but it was a great race. If only I had eliminated the speed limiter. In all I only made like 10 runs on nitrous, and the engine only has 12000 miles on the rebuild. she sits in my basement, waiting for ressurection.

as I said, the car had been wrecked, the bottle was removed, and I was a 15 second flat car off the bottle. I raced hondas when I was out of nitrous, and more impressive hardware when the juice was flowing. Whats the point in racing a 15 second car when your running 13's, or a 13 second car when your running 15's?
and yes, in 2000 a guy had a black R-34 and some guy had a gunmetal R-32. Skylines. Ive even seen one in tacoma. I also remember, that there was a newspaper article in the local paper where a guy in a black r-34 skyline got pulled over and ticketed for not having a belt on. It was an article about local seatbelt enforcement patrols or something. he lived in renton.
Yes My olds sports a big block, you are one of the only people I have ever heard say that there are no olds big blocks, Ive heard it about pontiacs, not olds. Hell, The small block heads are designated by numbers, the bb heads by letters. If they werent different, why would the factory bother casting a different series of heads? but hey, whats the factory know, right?
And yes, I know. The big block heads will bolt onto the small block motor and run, but without fixing the port misallignment that comes from the DIFFERENCES in the 2 motors, performance suffers. My dad has a 330, that he spins to 6800 rpms, with port matched big block heads. The thing makes monsterous top end due to teh larger ports in the big block heads.
Technically you may be right. the bore whateverthe**** you were basing your argument on may be the same, but spare us all the technical jargon. great your a guru. now go get laid and quit flaming people on a message board.
You straight brought a discussion from a different post, to a place where I had posted on another subject and started talking ****.
