87 Transam vs 92 Corvette

Alright guys.I got a lil bet going on with my fellow boss/bestfriend who is older and can drive really well that from a dig i might just beat him on a light to light race and i want some honest opinions on what the outcome might be provided i hook well.

His car is a 92 LT1 vette.bone stock motor with magna muffler and C5 18 Zo6 rims.6 speed.

Against my car.mods are in my sig.

Now here is the catch. He has the infamous lt1 distributor moisture issue that makes the car bog hard around 4500rpm and up cutting his powerband down. His car also has traction control so who has the better shot in this close race.Im close to nailing my launches to minimal wheel spin.

So basically, it could bog terribly, and my '94 Escort could beat it in a race. Or, it could be warm and dry, not bog at all, and run real strong. Pretty hard to predict an outcome of a race on an intermittent problem.

It'll be close....if he's having issue it's certainly not unrealistic that you'd win.

well i do know his car runs perfectly fine untill it hits higher rpms.it does it all the time thats a fact.on a good day it may not bog so early..as in around 5-5500rpm and then it sounds like someone was bouncing off a rev limiter.other than that i feel the car is solid when i drove it.

is the bog happening off the line while he tries to launch at 4500rpms, or does it rev to 4500, then bog? if its the latter, than he probably has opti issues and shouldnt be racing the car in the first place. if its off the line, more than likely the bog is him leaving the traction control on while trying to launch the car... itll make it bog everytime. i tired that at the track once or twice to see if it would help with off the line traction on my old 93' 6spd Vette and it would do the same thing. if the ASR detects any kind of wheelspin off the line, it pulls fuel and timing until wheelspin stops, resulting in a terrible bog. tell him to ALWAYS race with the traction control OFF

BTW- after some dragstrip practice i coaxed a 13.3 at 107mph out of my bone stock 93' 6spd Vette... if he can truely drive you may be in trouble

Re: 87 Transam vs 92 Corvette

yes thats exactly his problem.the opti spark.and his asr has a malfuntion on it since he can no longer swith between suspenion settings.but yes he can drive very well and i know it will be close and he will probably edge me out but as of yesterday we retired the car due to the rear diff blowing out as we pulled into the driveway to our shop.i was excited for this matchup and now he is going to dump money into it before i can race him stock.

The better question is, why is he racing a car with ignition problems instead of fixing it?

I think the trans am guy will be bowing down to the vette owner.

Re: 87 Transam vs 92 Corvette

Those Opti problems are always so intermittent, Id guage the race on it not happening. In which case, Id be gunning for the LT1 based on power/weight
