89 T/A Vs. 95 BMW M3
Usually don't post up too often, but Im curious about this.
My sister's boyfriend came over the other day and saw my car sitting in
the garage all sparkly clean and asked if the car could run. He was kind of
snide about it because he had just bought a '95 BMW M3 from god knows
what lot.
It was clean, stock 5spd car with nice rims and an exhaust, 130k on
the odometer. I went for a ride and it was alright, it ran pretty well to
my knowledge.
Ill probably run him for sport from a dig to 60mph or so.
My car has no suspension mods, but new tires and a fresh motor.
Completely fresh 58cc #081 heads untop of a mild cammed 350. Fresh
ford 22lb injectors, shorty headers, port matched TPI intake/plenum/runners,
pro magnum 1.6 rr's, 3inch exhaust w/80series flowmaster, a good CAI and
a tune.
Dunno too much about BMW's, I know M3's can move. My car has
been running strong for 16k on the crank now since early January '08,
enough confidence to run it. Never been dynoed, the motor is actually
just a crutch till I tie up some loose ends. But, its the best running crutch
ive ever had.
Who ends up on top?

Assuming a stock 95 m3, he has a 240hp I6 that makes about 225lb/ft torque and the car itself comes in around 3200lbs curb weight.
Any L98 with headers should romp on one without issue. Stock L98 vs stock M3 and I'd have to give a slight edge to the m3.

Re: 89 T/A Vs. 95 BMW M3
I actually had a little fun with an older (I would say a 95ish) M3 a couple weeks ago. I got passed by that car and a Cobalt SS who appeared to be playing around. We hit a dark, desolet stretch of highway with noone around. The M3 was in front of me, dropped a gear or two and stood on it. I was at the ready in 3rd, and from a 50 mph or so roll he never gained an inch on me. We didn't run it up much, through mid 4th, but I was very surprised by it. The Cobalt didn't play, he just kept pace with us.
BTW this was in my 2003 Audi A4 1.8T, not the Mustang. Thats what was shocking about it, the Audi should be a TURD on the highway!

Have you had your car tuned? I know it made a hell of a difference on my car after the rebuild with a cam upgrade and a few things. Anyway, I don't think you should have any issues with those M3s.

I had a 96 dude... you will win with your mods... now dont get me wrong. they are fast, but you have decent mods, similar to mine and i know i could win. Think about how awesome it would be to put a snide character in his place !

Re: 89 T/A Vs. 95 BMW M3
almost 8 months ago, I also had upgraded my rockers from Crane Energizer
aluminum 1.52rr with the pro mag 1.6 around the same time. One, I noticed
what a lack of fuel can do for performance, even if you have the proper
size injectors, they need to be specified so in the ecm, the car was lean
always until I had it tuned.
I was clueless about M3's, so thanks for the details. Even without a
blueprinted TPI motor, Im confident. She is far from a dog and has some
power without a doubt. Curious to see what numbers I could come up
with! Im willing to take it to the strip to find out, before I start a new.
Anyway, Ill probably see him tomorrow.

Here is some info you may find interesting. The cars listed are supposed to be stock but you can click to see whats been done to them. Since he got the BMW used theres no telling whats been done to it.
