1/4 times w/ a 305

I have an 87 iroc w/ the 305-tpi 700r4 and 3.70 9-bolt rear. The engine is pretty much stock, ignition mods, k&ns, hollowed cat and no muffler. But pretty much stock. What do u thinks I will be running. I took a car guy for a ride and he said it felt like a high 13 sec car, but I doubt it. I am taking my iroc to the track sat. And just want an idea what I will be running.

I'd say high 14's if you get a perfect launch. If I had to guess I would say 15.2-15.4.

high 14's that 3.70 rear might be hurting you a bit with the 700r4 since you have no mods to help higher RPM breathing...but i'd say high 14's

BTW where in Lindenhurst do you live? i know a few people that used to liv up there

Can I ask why dudes are putting posts about drag racing on the Street Racing board and not the Drag Racing board??

I'll say about mid 14's.

am i the only one here that thinks he will be in the 15's? high to mid 14's is only feasable on a 5 speed, not a 700r4, especially not stock. our 350's only run low to mid 14's, so i dont see how you guys are pinning his near bone stock car in the low to high 14's. its a 15 second car, and thats that.

yeah well you guys get way too hung up on your 350s. mostly stock to mostly stock, a 305 is about as good as a 350. i have raced two 350 cars, a GTA and a IROC, and beat them both. my mods are in my sig. i have also done all the little tricks too, like advancing the TPS, and whatnot. just for the record, i beat the GTA pretty bad. i know there are 350 cars out there that would beat me, and i know that for real high performance that a 350 is a much better starting point. but there is no reason that a good running 305 with some mods can't run a 14.8or9.

86 IROC-Z
305 TPI
700R4 W/ shift kit
3.23 gears
T-Tops
maroon with gold stickers and rims/ black interior
43,000 miles
flowmaster exhaust, edelbrock headers, gutted airbox, converter, and MAF, K&N filters.

soon to come are 3.73 gears and subframe connecters.

i was a hardcore 305 person until i got into 350's, and with all honesty, 305's mostly suck. there is no replacement for displacement, and this almost reminds me of an argument with those import guys. 305's were not designed for performance, they were a lousy attempt at a fuel economic v8, and they fall flat on their face doing so. they dont respond well to mods, they have poor low end torque, and the list goes on. i am not saying there arent exceptions to what i am saying, all i am saying is a 350 with the same money into it will always run faster. this guy wanted to know what he will run, and i told him 15's and i stick by it. also, you said there is no reason he cant run high 14's with mods. look at his mods, he has gears, no exhaust and a k &n. i am finished here.

I have the bottom of the line 305, the LG4 V8 that has about 150hp.
I ran a 14.94 @ 91.67mph.
The only mods I had at the time was an Edelbrock 1406 Carb, Edelbrock 7101 Intake Manifold, and MSD HEI Coil.
Car had 130K miles on it without a rebuild.
I also have a 5 speed and 3.23 gears that came stock.

thanks for proving my point that i stated earlier. he has a 700r4, not a 5 speed. big, big difference.

A while back I had an 86 IROC 305TPI(peanut cammed) Auto 3.23 gears. The only mods it had was an airfoil & a Flowmaster muffler. The best it was able to do in the 1/4 was a 15.12 . With the 3.70s and traction, high 14's are VERY possible.
