1991 Z28 vs. 2002 BMW 330i

My 1991 Z28, 305TPI, WC-T5, F41, has the G80 3.08 with aluminum drums. Lots of new parts, 100% stock, 95,005 miles, vs. co-workers 2002 BMW 330i M Sport (nice body kit, 18" rims, but same drivetrain as the regular 330's). It's a 3.0 sraight six, 5-speed, 3.07 limited slip. About 220hp, 230tq. It's pretty quick! Has 114,000 on it. Who will come out on top in a quarter mile sprint? It's a four door. Seems to be pretty even horsepower match, him at 220, me about 235, but I have over 100 ft. lbs. of torque more. Both are 5-speeds, with similar ratio rear ends... spec on that car is 0-60 in 6.1 seconds.

have you got your car dynoed before i have a 305 tbi and i dyno at 202 hp and 268tq to the tires if your going by the numbvers on third gen are from the factory not to the tires. What matters is whats going to the tires not the crank im right around 250 hp at the crank and 320 tq at the crank

So we raced!

20 rolls from second gear, I got the jump, bimmer caught up and was just passing by as I hit third, by 70-80 he pulled a car on me. Did a few races, some were closer than others, but he had the quicker car that night. My car threw a SES light, EGR valve was stuck, and my car was running rich and missing at idle. Raced again, and it grinded going into third. After that, it was grinding every time going into third. I got a sychro going bad now

Last run of the night, 4th gear 70 mph roll, I left him, had 2-3 cars on him by 110. He calls me a minute later, his tranny is slipping BAD. Lol!

I drove my car back to the shop, EGR is fixed, and get this, my transmission is being rebuilt... for $170!!! The owner loves my car (really wanted to buy it), felt bad and is doing the rebuild without labor cost. My boss on the other hand... Lol. We won't go there
