1987 IROC-Z 350, 20k miles

Selling my award winning, 1987 Camaro IROC-Z. This car sold new for over $21k in 1987. It has the L98 350, TTops, Leather interior, Bose stereo and about every option you could get, including power windows, power locks, power mirrors, rear window defroster, intermittent wipers, cruise control, power seats, power hatch release with automatic pull down, auto dimming rear view mirror, overhead console, power antenna, AC and the rear locking hatch cover. 1987 was the first year for the return of leather seating, the first year for the 350, the first year for the Bose stereo system and the last year of the most desired rim choice. Also, in 1987, when ordering the 350, it was standard to get all of the performance goodies, like the G92 performance axle (3.27 Borg-Warner axle), transmission cooler and four wheel disc brakes. Starting in 1988, these were optional on the 350.

Over the past 15 years of my ownership, all repairs have been done using correct GM parts. Even the AC blows cold with “R12”. The transmission was rebuilt in 2012 due to the forward sprag being damaged. It was rebuilt using a Corvette servo and upgraded internals due to the weaker factory internal design. The fuel pump was replaced in 2007. I drove the car on the Hot Rod Power Tour in 2011 and it rode like a new car. I did have to replace the alternator on that trip, but it was replaced again when I got home with a correct replacement.

In 2009, this car made a historic lap around the Daytona International Speedway, being paced by the new 2010 Daytona Pace Car Camaro. It was also in the Fan Zone for spectators to see During the Daytona 500 race. It has also done a lap around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Some of the awards this car has won are below:
2001 World of Wheels - Best in Class
2002 Camaro SuperFest - 1st place unrestored original - 199/200 points
2001 All GM Show - Minneapolis - 1st Place
2002 World of Wheels - Best in Class
2003 Worldwide Camaro WinterNationals - 1st Place - Gold Certificate
2003 FBody Gathering, Atlanta - 1st Place - Platinum Award
2004 Worldwide Camaro WinterNationals - 1st Place - Platinum Award
2005 Worldwide Camaro WinterNationals - 1st Place - Platinum Award
2005 Eckler's CamaroFest - 1st Place
2005 FBody Gathering, Atlanta - 1st Place - Platinum Award
2006 Worldwide Camaro WinterNationals - 1st Place - Platinum Award
2006 FBody Gathering Atlanta - 1st Place - Platinum Award
2006 NPD OktoberFest All GM Nationals - Best in Class 82-92 FBody
2007 Worldwide Camaro WinterNationals - 1st Place - Platinum Award

This Camaro has been featured in the following books and Magazines:
Standard Catalog of Camaro 1967 — 2002, published 2002
The Story of Camaro, published 2006
How to Make your Muscle Car Handle, published 2011
Hemming’s Muscle Machines, Feature Article, February 2014
Hemming’s Motor News, March 2015

This car was also used by Laid-Back USA in their “Camaro 4 Generations” T-shirt.

I have enjoyed this car and it has been well taken care of. The paint is still the factory original and has a beautiful shine. I recently went over the car with Wolfgang’s polish and a Porter Cable polisher for a beautiful, scratch free reflection. There are a few small flaws in the paint, but that should be expected for an almost 30 year old car.

My son is in his last year of high school and will be starting college next year. I’m selling my car in preparation for this journey of his.

Asking price is $33k or Best Offer.

Wow Scott - I think I would get rid of the 5.0 and hold on to this. Good luck with the sale.

Unfortunately, the 5.0 is my sons. This will give me the opportunity to start over with a blue 5 speed or a Formula. I've learned over the past that having too many cars makes it difficult to enjoy them all, or to decide which car to take to a show. With that, Florida isn't what I thought it would be regarding shows. It rains all the time and when rainy season is over and it cools down, it gets dark too early. I'm hoping to move back up north somewhere in the next year or so. I'll be able to enjoy the car more then. TTops don't work well in 95* high humidity weather.
