Ok, I've got my wife and two kids in my camaro, and we're gonna go for a nice little ride. I am about to turn on to the on ramp, and this guy in a 84 or 85 TA darts right up on my tail....(beautiful car, looked very nice, sounded great eventually).

If it was just a go-schmo car, I would've gotten pissed because he was tail gating... Since it was a 3rd gen T/A, I figured we might as well see what happens. I wasn't too sure what would happen, his car looked so nice. So I turn on the on ramp and make sure he's right there, then I floor it, like I usually do on this certain on-ramp. By the time I get to the freeway, I'm hittin' about 85 and I pulled 5 or 6 car lengths in front of the guy.

I've got my family with me, so I back off to about 80 (speed limit is 75). Then, maybe 20 or 30 seconds later, the guy does the good ole ***** fly by at about 100 mph!!! I got a good look at the driver, and sure enough it was some punk kid, leaning way over to the side, with his doofy hat with the floppy brim that goes all of the way around.

My wife and I both started laughing.

So, if you are going to drive a car that looks that nice, have the decency to show it well!!!

I am under no illusions that I have a super fast car, but am always curious to see what would happen. If you beat me, it doesn't really matter, it's just a hobby. I don't put bread on the table with this.

Later that afternoon, I pull up next to a guy on a Harley Sportster....I know for a fact, that it can fly. I don't rev my engine, neither does he, but I intentionally stayed right next to him. He gunned it (I'm sure not all of the way), and so did I ( I floored it). I stayed right next to him. The next light was coming up and I had to turn off....we both had smiles on our faces.

So if you're the dip**** in the TA, learn from the guy on the bike huh?

Why were you racing with your family in the car? I'm pretty sure that nobody's that dumb, and the story has a good point, but for your sake keep the passenger count down when racing. I know a lot of guys (me included) won't race somebody if there's even one other person in their car, or in the opponents car.
Too bad the kid in the TA doesn't understand that it's not always a p!ssing contest.

NT,

I didn't get the car above 85 and there was no traffic on the freeway at the time. I know what you mean though.

Good to hear.
I didn't want to come off as a safety jerk there.
