How to downshift on highway for quickness?...
With a 700R4 transmission with a 350 engine in a Camaro, and 2.77 rear, while in OD on the highway. And someone wants to race me, do I just floor it while in OD? Or do I shift into D? Or should I shift to 2nd gear? Is that bad to shift from OD to 2nd gear? I'm looking for the best way to downshift to get my car moving and winning, if the situation arises. How do you personally race on the highway with 700R4 transmission?

If in OD and you floor it, the tranny will automatically downshift into D. As far as is it ok to downshift into 2nd from OD. Could and could not be. If you're doing 100mph and you downshift into 2nd think of the rpms you'll be at. Now if you're doing 40 or 50 I don't see the harm. But also remember at what rpm your car stops making power, it would be worthless to downshift into 2nd and be doing 5k rpms, because you won't have much room for power.

I would say just leave the car in gear and let the tranny shift for you if it is an auto
the tranny should shift into the right gear for ya
and what do you mean dont make power at 5k? I make power all the way up to about 8000

i have 2.73s(not far off 2.77's) , if i am at 45 mph it will downshift to second on its own , it downshifts into thrid at about 60 . so if your at 65 or so , dont downshift it to 2nd , one because it will scream , 2 because youll only be shifting out of your powerband anyways

I have the 700R4 and 2.73's and on the highway doing about 55 MPH my car shifts into 2nd from OD. My car will go to about 4000 RPM's then up to 4500 where it holds and doesnt shift to 3rd or run any higher RPM's.....4500 is my peak horsepower so do I want to leave it in second and run right at 4500 or do I want to go into 3rd?

you will not shift into OD until you reach 120 or so mph with 2.73 gears. you don't want to up shift and bog your car down (which won't happen if you have it floored)
the best way to do your auto if you don't want to wait for the car to automatically downshift (which could take a little while) if you anticipate a race you can manually downshift your auto, like if you put it in "2" it won't shift past 2nd gear or if you put it in "D" it won't shift past 3rd gear. but you should know what speeds your car shifts at. for my stick with 3.08 gears i shift at 45, 60, 95, 120. on my auto with 2.73 gears it shifts at 45, about 70, 130 (i can't remember when it shifts into 3rd too well i haven't drive it hard in a long while)
but after downshifting you will be set to go and not have to wait for the tranny to downshift for itsself.
as for the v6 beating porsches, only if its a GN, T-Type, TTA, or heavily modified.
