Trucks? Someone explain?

I'm sure this has to happen to you guys as well, besides Ricers trying to pick races every now and then, lately it's been trucks, tonight it was a Nissan Titan. Friday it was a Dodge. Anyone got an explanation?

Some trucks are fairly fast. Or they really don't care and you think they are starting something and they are not.

Sure. It took long enough, but people now realize that anything can be made fast...

By the way, what's really nuts is when you start seeing trucks picking fights with bikes...

Re: Trucks? Someone explain?

I dont get the truck crowd....to me a truck is about getting up high and offroading..not a speed thing...but guys do it. I've been picked on by a variety of stockish trucks over the years and at the track 11 second diesels.... they keep trying acting like they got a V8 so it must be a race car.

But some are very fast I'll give them that. Just think its a waste of money to try to make a 5000-7000 lb vehicle fast

Re: Trucks? Someone explain?

yeah my buddy has a twin turbo silverado, ran 11.0 at 130mph so far with a stock 5.3 with twin 62-1's. He's been thru 3 motors in that thing all twin turbo. Bought a ford lightning for a fun ride for his fiance. I guess its different stokes for different folks but that same 5.3TT would be a low mid 9 second ride in a light fbody

Re: Trucks? Someone explain?

This thread has been common topic for me. Pull up at the light, the rivers got to put themselves in check in Houston evidently, the will not make eye contact anymore or even try to run me thank god these days. But truck? Omg, it is like the ***** croud just went and bought a damn truck. They have a muffler and cold air, maybe a programmer, and they are at a ligh revving at me in a car with a pizza cutte wheel tire combo, w steam rollers on the back, 4 inch cowl and my car is beating the earth to death waking the dead, and they sure as hell want to give it a swing...I just let them go, and lol. Have not had a truck yet that would beat me if I would run, the ones that could, are not dumb enough to try to race any time any where anyway. Sad, I could understand if I was in a sleeper or stock-stockish car, but my rides look and sound the part.

Re: Trucks? Someone explain?

And that explains wanting to attempt and outrun some of us that are clearly anything but stock? I understand(I guess) trying a 305 or tpi 350, but some of us send red lights visually and with sound. I'm sure it deters some, but evidently many would play with a rattle snake given the chance...

Sometimes they just wanna see the other car go. I've had many ppl pull up beside me just to see me light the tires at 45 mph rolls

Re: Trucks? Someone explain?

There is a stockish looking 90's lightening at the track I go to that runs 8.90's. Its fun to watch that thing go, but he has broken alot of 9" rears. Pretty sure he'd be damn near a second faster if he put that F2 powered 427 in a nice light weight Foxbody

I love how people on this board get all pissy about anyone modding or racing a vehicle other than a camaro or firebird.

Re: Trucks? Someone explain?

Id pull up to Orr to watch that too lol. Not sure Id run him though!!

Built an early El Camino to pick on the Z06 M5 and whatever else you have crowd. Not the lightest thing out there but not porky either
Can always put it on a diet
Far as Im concerned you can have an 800hp dyno queen but if you cant lay the power down it isnt worth squat. Seeing cars like that running regular street tires tells me they are a squirrel

Sold the Vettes couldnt afford another camaro and had this laying around for 15 yrs so said why not.
If I could only make it quiet enough..

Re: Trucks? Someone explain?

I dont see anyone getting pissy about modding other cars, it just doesnt make sense to spend money on heavy trucks to go fast....spending money is for speed and hp required to make heavy things go fast is HIGH and high hp is big dollars anyway you slice it

6.2 gm trucks are running 13's @ 100 mph with little more than a tune. so why not do it if you have the truck?

Re: Trucks? Someone explain?

That isnt to bad if you do simple mods like that. I plan that for my truck when i get one. What i dont get is the heads cam type builds or the blower turbo trucks. I dont wanna go that fast in a big ackward heavy vehicle

Probably because after they are done kicking *** at the track they can still go to home depot and pick up some drywall.

Exactly, drop that same boosted setup into a 2000 pound lighter, not to mention aerodynamic body, and pick up lots of ET and MPH, I mean lots.

So if you have a stock or near stock vehicle you should not try to race anything modded? Why?

Re: Trucks? Someone explain?

In a stock truck that is lucky to go 15's vs his heavily cammed camaro that you can obviously feel and hear running? Yes, you should not try to race that but I got a feeling most that try just want to see and hear the other car run. I know I've picked fights with things I clearly should have no business trying just to see the other car run

Exactly^

I have had people in your situation straight up roll down the window and ask me to hit it on green or show what I got. All you have to do us ask. Now the retarded looking individual that looks all serious, foot braking on red, waiting on green....that guy.

If it's loud it it's fast...or at least that's what most truck guys think. Around here it's just stupid, there are a "few" fast trucks but most are stock trucks with a loud exhaust and super cool dual chrome tips...go them.

yep. I love picking fights with cars I know are faster than me. It's all in good fun. at least for me. The other people seem to take it waaay to seriously. My girlfriend lives in an uppity richy side of town, so I get the, um, privilige(?) of getting stomped on by porches and beamers all the time . My stockish 5.7 just cant hang with em yet. But I just love seeing the WTF?! expressions on the rich fat guys faces when I DARE rev my engine at them . I've always loved that you can race a guy in a domestic, and win or lose they'll just pull up to the next light and chat with you until it's time to go again. not so with people who drive anything else. they just stick their nose in the air like I'm not even worth wasting the time to look at me.
And I've never raced a truck and lost haha. even when I was driving my 305.

Re: Trucks? Someone explain?

Last year when I would leave from my morning class I would always see this F150, maybe an 09 or 10 model. Four door, big huge rims (maybe 24s), lowered and cammin its a$$ off through a loud exhaust. Every time I saw it, or heard it rather, I wanted to go and ask the guy how it felt to spend all that money and time on a mid 13 sec truck. Sounded cool, but couldn't have been anywhere near as fast as it sounded. Kinda reminded me of show cars with big huge potato cams making about 250 hp.

Re: Trucks? Someone explain?

I don't even usually bother with the trucks that are serial face. The ones that are laughing when they throw a rev, I will rev back or roll through 1st for their satisfaction. This thread seems towards the serious truck drivers that really try.

That truck has been dominating our local street racing scene for years. Turbo LSx for the win

They roll with some pretty fast Kenne Bell Jeep SRT8's as well. I would not want to line up next too one that runs like the one below...

Re: Trucks? Someone explain?

One big advantage is awd launching that some trucks can do which makes then very dangerous on the street. My car is fast on the track or from a high roll but a dig i can not win. No hope in traction.

I can think of a 6.4? twin turbo newer Ford that has seen 12.5 at 98 MPH. A 7.3 that has gone high 12's. A few 11 second S10s and one single track only one.

Although I can't figure why in the world somebody would spend a large amount of money on a diesel truck and than drop a ton of money into (at the very least a trans, converter and tune) when they can go much faster in a car.

I do have a small block n2o s10 myself though.

Re: Trucks? Someone explain?

Some of the diesel trucks can be ridiculously fast. I saw a guy at the track with a big jacked up 4X4 Ford, and the damn thing ran mid 10's! Guy was an ******* though, I tried to talk to him and asked him his mods and he just put his nose in the air and told me "I got enough".

One time back in the day when I still had my 87 GTA, I was sitting at light with my late wife and one of my buddies in the car. A primered up, jacked up, 4x4 old pickup pulls up next to me and he starts using the clutch to make the truck go back and forth beside me (we were on a slight uphill). I stick my eyes to the light and wait for it as I decide I'm going to sit back and give him the jump, and then go crush his ***. The light hits green, he drops the clutch, and his driveshaft comes shooting down from out of the truck and goes bouncing all over the place!! We all look up and his gf has this look on her face like "I know, he sucks and I am so embarassed right now", and we sit there through the whole green and red light laughing our asses off at this guy. The light turns green again and I light em up and take off down the road to let him soak in his embarassment alone lmao.

That isn't the issue at hand. I can give a damn about what other people decide to sink money into. I am not even talking about gas trucks because they are getting rarer to spot around here.
I can see if you own a diesel truck for a reason such as work but my issue is a lot of kids around here are buying these trucks to go "fast" and they never see a trailer, plow or anything in the bed.
I've talked to a few of them, some can hang with my daily (bolt on 94 z28), some get their doors blown off and some can rip me off the line and then we remain the same distance apart. It's all fine and well if I get pulled on by a 7,000lb truck; my vehicle cost me $1,000 and their programmer alone cost that (not to mention their $5,5000 transmission and initial vehicle purchase of $10,000+)

I just can't see why these younger guys want to handicap themselves with a 4,000lb weight disadvantage, dump at least $18,000 into a vehicle and still not be nearly as impressive as a fox/f-body with that amount invested and then have the nerve to think their truck is faster than a car. At the end of the day I suppose the joke is on them. My 2,800lb truck (350, vortec heads, 224/230 CC, 100 shot) may or may not be faster than some dude's diesel truck but my overall investment in what you see is merely the price of their transmission/converter... and still blow the doors off most cars. It's also a bigger shock to lose to an S10 these days than it is a diesel truck

Another popular thing around here is seeing their motors at the local machine shop cause they tried making too much power on their stock bottom ends

Re: Trucks? Someone explain?

I just let them go, and lol.
Best thing to do
Every time I have the Camino out I get revved at and challenged, every single time.

I like cheap insurance
Dont want my car getting impounded and crushed into a 3x2 cube
Stuff happens when you street race and its not always good

Personally I could care less if Im faster or not.
Ill admit I gave in one time to a crotch rocket just "to see".

It is fun being paced by someone only to have them roll down their window and hear your cam loping and your going 40 mph. Get a funny look on their face sometimes.

Gotta watch out for them grey hairs ya know

I enjoy the thumbs up from passers by, and being asked to hear it, ect. But the original post of stock trucks with blowmaster trying us in heavily modded cars is just the issue, Thr serious ones.

I honestly think my 2 door yukon and SCSB vortec 350's would sit by most 3rd gens in my area. Yukon had 3.73s and SCSB had 4.10s... light to light they were faster than a lot of things lol.

In my area and the rest of the world, beating v6 and 305 tbi third gens isn't saying much.

Re: Trucks? Someone explain?

I love my truck, it has a V8, has more than enough power to walk away from 95% of the vehicles on the street and equally as many on the 1/8 mile track. I can put a boat or trailer on the trailer hitch ball, an ice chest of beer in the bed, 4 adults comfortbly in the crew cabs interior, run 13s in the 1/4, driven to and from the track and then take it and haul a load of firewood back home. Versatility is why people are choosing trucks. The cost of a truck is also substantially lower than a V8 sports car and that gives you alot of $$$$ to mod with.

I'm sure it would be even lower yet for a little elise or something like that
