New to this

Hi, I am looking for a starter car for drag racing as I don't want to use my IROC as it is too original for blowing up!
I have seen a 91 Firebird and wondered if that might be an alternative? It only a little one with the 305 engine and auto box, but I am a girlie and wanted to break my self in gently! I am guessing I can do the same sort of upgrades as I could to the IROC I own which is an 87.
Thanks, Alena

Re: New to this

Starting with a 305 is an okay choice to enter into drag racing if you do not care what you run, what you lose to and just do it for fun.
I would not go sinking money into anything that isn't going to be interchangeable with a 350 though (good things are headers, exhaust, gears, suspension, converter). You'll get sick of the 305 and want to go faster, I'd suggest building a 350+ CI small block and switching over your headers/exhaust onto it.

Re: New to this

Thank you for the replies. I have bought a car to play with over the winter and see where it gets me in the new year!

I'm to curious not to ask. What did you end up buying for your winter toy?

Re: New to this

I bought a tatty 91 Firebird to play with, same engine and gearbox as the Iroc, so if it all goes **** up I have spares for that at least! I will add some pictures shortly. I currently have the shifter out and some other bits off her that I am sorting out. She needs a full service, probably a new exhaust as its rusty as hell, the air con needs disconnecting and she needs 2 new tyres. Probably a whole load of other stuff too but I will cross that bridge when I come to it!
