84 Z28 vs 91' RS

alright, my track opens this Fri, and im taking my stock LG4 Z down to see what it runs. a buddy of mine has a 91' RS with the 305 TBI motor (auto). he thinks his car will waste mine. both vehicles are stock and well maintained. from what ive heard, both cars should be somewhere in the 16s, and should be a close race. the problem is i cant get traction. every time i try to launch, it just spins its one wheel. its an open ended rear with 3.23s. Any suggestions before we race down the quarter mile? and if i can get traction, who do you think will win?

The RS is rated at more power, but in most cases came with 2.xx gears. I say before you go to the track, look through the tech articles and do the suggested carb mods. Hey, It'll still be stock. When you are launching, how high do you rev when you preload? Keep in mind that your vette probably has a higher stall converter stock, so you may need to keep the revs down some when launching the Z. I only bring it up to 1,500rpm or so. Just a thought.

Oh yeah,
I'll say you can win this one, just cut a good r/t and keep it hammered.

with the Vette i dont bring the revs up at all, i just floor it after a healthy burnout. if i rev it, it just spins all over the place. ive been using the same technique in the Z, but it spins. today on the way to work, i caught a red light, and decided to see what the old camaro could do. the light turned green, and i eased into WOT instead of just planting my foot. i manually shifted at 4500 rpm, and was pleased with the results. im pretty sure itll break into the 16s with ease, its just i need to launch a little harder, but not get wheelspin. something in between just flooring it, and *****-footing it. as for the free mods? im new to this carburetor thing, i dont even know where the hangars and rods are, let alone know how to change them. im just going to remove my air filter and cut my A/C belt prior to racing.
