Mustangs vs. IROC

The first Friday night the track is open is this weekend. I have two Stangs that are gunnin' for me. One is a 98 conv. gt with a 4.6 and the other is a 94 or 95 (not sure) gt hardtop with a 5.0
Both have headers and off road h pipes, flowmasters, and gear changes. The 4.6 has 4.10 gear and the 5.0 has 3.73's. The conv. is a auto and the 5.0 is a 5 spd. We race the 1/8. Last year I beat the conv. no problem, it ran 9.4 and I ran 9.1, 9.2. I have never raced the 5.0 What do you think? See my sig for my mods.

I think you will win. Your IROC-Z doesn't have the 2.77's does it?!

I had the rear serviced, just freshened it up, and the mechanic told me they were 3.27's.

It should be a good race, but I think you will have him. Those year cars are heavy and he is going to have traction issues.

I agree, especially that you have the 3.27's instead.

I think if the guy with the 5.0 knows how to drive you're going to lose.

Hey man!! Easy on the 2.77's will ya??? I hate them but give me a break. Anyway I think it will be close. But, the way you hook up, you should have him b/c I doubt they have suspension mods.

Alright guys, went to the track and it was horrible. I never in my life have had such traction problems as I did last night. I couldn't get traction halfway down the track and by the time I did it was to late. My 60' times dropped from 1.9's last year to 2.4 last night. My reaction times were near perfect with three .504 lights.
I don't know what to do for traction because I'm running the same tires (new) and nobody else seemed to have much of a problem. Anyway, I still managed to hit 9.4 at 81 mph, I just wish I could have actually had TRACTION. I caught a couple of my runs on video tape and in 2 of my 4 runs I was white smokin' 3/4 of the track. What would you guys suggest to take care of traction but not blow my rear in two passes? F.Y.I. The 5.0 Mustang ran a fastest of 9.09 and the 4.6 conv. ran 9.56. Never had a chance to race them head to head

Good question.
How the hell do we get better traction on third gens with sucha light rear? Its fun peeling out and all but your not moving.

You obviously need traction. How were you launching??

A full gas tank should help a little.

I tried to launch with about half throttle then get into it but that was about as worthless as stomping it off the line. I had about 3/4 tank of gas because it is a 30 mile drive to the dragstip. I tried with cold tires, warmed up a bit, then a half pi$$ed burnout. Nothing I did made a difference. A guy at the track told me to have somebody ride in-between the back seats, but that is against the tracks rules Thinking about getting some sort of slick, just don't want to have to spend a fortune in tires and a new rear.

New night, new times. I still had to use street tires but I found some Kelly Chargers 245/60/16 to put on the IROC. I ran about 25 psi in them and did o.k. My 60' times dropped to 2.2, still off from last year. I managed to win every race and take the street trophy with three 9.4 runs. I ran a few extra runs after the et race was over and managed to hit a 9.00 with a 60' time of 2.08.
Going to try to snag some dr's in the next couple of weeks, I am like way broke and I'm trying to buy heads also

try dropping your tire pressure even further to about 20 psi. i run that in my rear tires and it helps traction. plus i do a 3-5 sec burnout to heat them up. consistent 1.9 - 2.0 60fts

in the Vette i have 275/4017s in Michelin Pilot XGTZ4s. these tires kick ***! low 60fts and the tread has yet to wear out in my 3 years of owning the car. theyll dry rot before the tread wears out. try running a little higher fuel pressure, too. i have mine set at 48psi

TO clarify something on the Mustangs. Both of them had heard that they were going to get their azzes handed to them by me and a 99Z28SS, so they went and had slicks mounted, not dr's, the real deal. I called but wasn't going to back out cause I like to pizz people off who spend big bucks on their cars just to almost get beat by my frontyard project.(Don't have backyard ) Of course they hook like velcro and go. Sure the one ran a 9.09, I pry could have hit 8's if I had slicks. F.Y.I the 98SS ran a 8.2 on dr's :hail:

My best 1/8 is 8.882 with the time in my sig. Not bad for bolt ons and heavy car. We have new concrete starting pads that SUCK!! No traction at all. The best I could get is 2.11 with 18psi in my Nitto's..most runs were 2.25-2.4! BLAA!! Gonna wait an run again next Fri or today hopefully more rubber down. I don't ever see that many 4.6 Mustangs from 96-98 at track except Cobra's.

I had Michelin XGT V4's on my 88LX 5.0 and beat the crap out of them and never looked any different!! Those were great tires. I had Dunlop SP8000's on my 89LX and my 93GT with 17" rims and only got likw 10,000 miles on them of hard driving. That was not much spin either since I still had auto in the GT then.

Update: The 4.6 is now running 9.17. Don't know how, I imagine nitrous. As for the 5.0 he is still running 9.0's. I think it's about time for me to give my IROC a little shot in the arm. Probably calling it quits at the track untill I get my heads and a new t/c.

I don't see any '96 - '98s listed...I do see a '94, which is a totally different drivetrain.

For once, Monkie is innocent.

Teal please **** off. You are seriously getting on my nerves. Yes I did beat that 5.0L I remember it very well. It was a kid at my school that 1: didn't know how to drive worth a **** so he stayed at the line spinning and 2: he had more dents in the car and holes than a piece of swiss cheese. Quit being a ****** and stop attacking me out of no where. They say they should band me from this site. Once again I have proven I didn't start it. So quit.

You just don't give up. And kid? Look who is talking little boy. Grow up, no one else cares but you. And you should know as well as me that I have been here longer than you so I dont know why you are saying "can come here". Ok if I am feeding so much BS then tell me how I COULDN'T beat a 5.0L mustang that spun at the line and I got a good launch? Hmmm, thats right it is totally possible. Number one rule in racing is "A kill is a kill".

Hey I'm a kid in school, and I'd be willing to race your 17 second car with my 5.0. And if I spin off the line, I will catch you soooo fast. No way you beat a 5.0 with that car!! I've seen too many Mustangs spin horribly at the line and still go 16s or better, never once have I seen a 17. I'm sorry if this gets locked because of me!! But Monkie deserves everything that's coming to him!!!

Why aren't you banned yet? All you do is flame? You brag about your non-existant car then brag how your v6 camaro (probably the only car you DO actually have) can beat this that or the other thing.
Now, I'm going to have to tell you this as your parents should have.
Go to your room young man! Stop flaming Camaros on their home message board because you know you'll just cause fights.
Now you better stop flaming, or you're going to have to get a spanking!
