Headlight dimmer switch...
I was coming home from work and I pulled my dimmer switch and my headlights went off... Kinda scary.. but then they came back on.. now they won't switch from Low to high beams..Switch mustbe pouched.. can anyon give the the location of the switch and how much work is involved in doing this job?
Thanks
Thanks
Do you mean the switch or the relay for the headlights? It would most likely be in the engine bay, shouldn't be too hard to find. And I would imagine, based on the price for some of the other relays I've bought, probably only around $20 or so.
The dimmer(High beam switch) is part of the stalk and if it's defective (sound's likely) the whole unit has to be replaced I don't know what they are worth for our car's but the one for my truck is very similar and it's worth around $180 (I checked because I have to replace mine because my cruise switch is butched).
One other thing to check before you buy a new switch is check "ALL" of your ground's for your light circuit's ie. tailight's , signal's etc ..in one of my older Chevy truck's I used to fry dimmer switch's fairly frequentely and it was eventually traced to a broken ground wire in the driver side taillight. (If the ground is defective the current will find another another way to complete the circuit ussually thru a passive positive wire connected to the same light).
I looked thru some wiring schematic's I had kicking around to try and find the one for your car but I don't have it, If you can find it you can test the switch with an ohmmeter , should have close to 0 resistance in both position's..........SR
