Great, now what...

Guess what else blew up today?

I posted a couple of weeks ago about my cooling system problems. Dark crap in the rad which turned out to be a lot of stopleak. I got that flushed out and the heater core blew out on me. I bypassed it, and then ATF appeared in the rad. New rad installed. It's been fine until today when, damnit, my waterpump blew out. It must've blown out just as I parked it at work, since it was fine when I left it. Ten minutes later the other laser guy said my car blew up and there was smoke pouring from the hood. Sure enough, a lake of very dark coolant (remants of the stopleak, it looked just like very dirty oil) and steam coming out of the louvers (So they are real...). The gasket on the back of the pump blew out (not where it mates the block, on the actual pump itself). Well that's just great...

If anything else craps out on me with this bloody thing I'm sticking it back in the garage and pulling the Jimmy back out. That body job just keeps getting further and further away...

Whoever says bad things happen in threes, please make note: I'm done.

hey, don't worry about it. Little time will do its purpose. Probably have a few Kms on it, so change it anyways. When i bought my car, on the way home from this guys house, the alternbator goes. Im thinkin **** ya right, i thought for sure i bought a lemmon. But it was sooooo beautiful, my favorite car of all time. ( my step dad had a 86Z when iwas young) i changed that, the pump, front pads and rotors (front and back) calipers as well, one rerar was seized. Tires hoses, rads you nave it, i spent 900$ on newe stufff for it.since then i have spent couyntless days and nights but i love it. My buddy has a 87 stang hes buildin, and dammit im there soooo much, my girlfreind nows when im there, im gonna be awhile. I don't know, id say have fun cuase i am. Anytime anything breaks or wears, upgrade it with better stuff. good luck, youll need it.

non GM water pump

I'm curious how many kms are on your car ? Usually GM water pumps go at the bearings at about 120,000kms. Bet yours is a CDN Tire replacement from a previous owner, they are good for 10,000kms. Junk.

The water pump on a 3rd gen is an easy fix. Hardest part is opening the hood. You'll be done in an hour easy.

See if it had crapped out at home I would've fixed it myself. Ibnstead it waited until I pulled into the driveway at work in Burlington. So I filled it with water and took it to the nearest shop. $300 later...

There's roughly 180k on the 'bird. I bought it from my oldest brother last fall (the second owner). It wasn't the bearings that went, it blew the gasket on it's backplate. Oh well, at least I have a clean waterpump now.

It's officially been once day since my last car problems. Lets see how long the bloody thing lasts this time.
