Ignition timing tab

I was going to advance my igniotion timing 2day by about 9-12 but the tab was broke off some how ...
anyway im not going to advance it a lot anymore but im still wondering....... to advance the ignition do I turn the distrubitor (looking at it from the front of the car) left or right?

You turn it clockwise. Get a new tab before you bugger with it.

What would happen if the timing is to high what would happen anyway ?
just a big back fire out of the carb or ?

If looking at the top of the distributor, you turn it COUNTER-CLOCKWISE to advance it. Or you turn it so your vacuum advance pod is moving closer to the carb, not away from the carb.

You can get a Unversal timing tab at any speedshop, very cheap. You will need it.
