For you casting guru's.... Daz, I know your one.

I've recently become the repo man in that a guy who owes me money has skipped town and I've repo'd his stuff. In there was a set of SBC heads casting number 3795896. So far I have found out that these are Powerpack heads that came on the 283's and 327's from 1962-1967. They have 60cc combustion chambers. I'm wondering if anybody can find out if these were the heads that made the 327's 365hp and 375hp during those years.

And then maybe, if anybody wants to buy them...

what size valves??62-65 283 or 327..I dunno if mortec has a listing of this..In other words I think if it has the bigger valves its the 375HP version..(more like 300HP)..

these are not facts just guesses

No, sorry. I did repo a turbo350 4wd tranny, a C4 auto ford tranny, some stock GM intakes a circle track intake and 2 barrel carb worked to flow 850cfm, ummm, a holley blue electric in-line fuel pump, the frame connectors that I posted in the classified section, a set of 5.0 HO Mustang rims, three spokes with tires, the 5.0HO dual snorkel air cleaner, a dremel set,...I got a bunch.

Oh, If anybody wants a set of rear window louvers, i've got the roundish set. I'll pretty much give them away for any offer. they're painted blue.

I went to Mortec and found out that they are 60cc with 1.74 1.50 valves. But they have 3 versions of the same cast number, but I haven't measured the valves yet to determine what they really are

The old power pack heads have really small intake ports, even smaller than 305 ones. According to the books I have, the 896 heads have a intake port of 137cc., with the valve sizes mentioned below. There probably only worth money to the resto crowd.

From what i've found out, with some heavy porting to accept large 2.02 valves, those heads make relly good hp.

I'll check into them later and find out, I do need some heads.

Mark, have you figured out why your car wont run properly yet? i would figure that out before you start bolting on new heads. the heads you have now may not be performance heads, but your car should run way faster than mid 15s.

Not really, I'm thinking it's a carb problem. Right now I have a bad hesitation when I give it gas.

The timing is right, new wires, cleaned up plugs that are fairly new.

I sprayed some carb cleaner to check for vac leaks, and all is well there.

I'm having my brother install some new jets/rods on the carb while I'm back at college. I'll see if that helps.

If not, when I get heads, I'll buy a DP carb and not worry about the vac. 2nddary crap not opening correctly.

not a good idea with an automatic transmission. autos like vac secondaries, manuals like mechanical secondaries. if you buy a carb with mechanical secondaries, you will have more problems than you do now. you just need to tune and work out the issues with your carb right now (assuming it is the carb). sounds like if you have the timing set correctly and all the ignition system is in good shape (hows the cap and rotor?) it could be carb related.

I didn't know that about auto/sticks. Hmm, the cap and rotor have about 12k miles on them , got them when I got the Accel Dist.

My casting book only says they came off the 283 between 1963 - 1967, from a passenger vehicle. So I imagine they aren't anything special unless you do some work to them.
