What's a good product to remove dirt/grime from paint?

Ok as you all know my car is on jackstands. I just spent 2 hours prepping the wheel wells to be painted. I taped up the wheel well, used varsol and cleaned the inside. They're now superclean inside and ready for painting. i'll probably paint them tonight when the varsol totally dries...

now my other endeavor I'd like to chase after this week is cleaning all the non-visible parts of the car. Such as under the ground effects... alot of dirt/grime has build up there. As you know... my car is on jackstands so I don't really have water to spray at these areas... And I've already tried water and a rough cloth and it did nothing anyhow.

Is there something I can put in a spray bottle and scrub with while the car is on jackstands to clean up the dirt/grime on the paint? Let me know! thanks.

If you are really careful, this works well:

Buy some Spray Nine (you can buy it at Crappy Tire) and dilute it really well (like 1 part Spray Nine/20 parts water) and put it in a spray bottle. Hose your car with water first and keep it wet. Spray your car with the Spray Nine/Water mixture and use a soft terrycloth or soft horsehair brush to lightly scrub it. I'd do a section at a time because you don't want that mixture to dry on the paint. Then hose it off. It works great, but just don't let it dry on the car and never use it "straight" (i.e.undiluted). We did this at Lexus. It lifts a lot of the impurities out of the paint. It's most noticeable on a white car. They turn out quite dazzling. That's what I would do. Just be careful that it doesn't dry on there.

Good luck.

I've heard steel wool or a good old fashioned sledge hammer will take off most any stubourn grit or dirt.
Seriously, Meguire's makes a product in a sray bottle, I can't think of the name, but you'll know it when you see it. Spray it on, let it sit for a bit, and hose it off while you rub with a sponge or something. Repeat as nessasary until everything is off. It doesn't seem to hurt paint. Very easy Easy.

Spray Nine?? Isn't that the stuff that boasts it can kill HIV in less than 30 seconds? Sounds like a recipe for disaster unless you're VERY careful!

I'd be willing to bet Turtle Wax would kill HIV. Not sure how that makes a point, but I DID mention about being careful.

Sorry Sinoed...but what in the Hell does "HIV" have to do with cleaning a car. I can use rubbing alcohol on the car it doesn't hurt anything but if I drink it I would die. Hmmmm, was that stupid enough???Reading that post hurt my eys. No offense.

Alex I would try was Tracey said to do. I wouldn't try to take anything off the bottom of the car itself. That grime you see is probably undercoat of some sort, this is protecting the undercarriage from rust. Be careful what you remove..you may regret it.

Cripes.. ok, let me clarify. Spray Nine is a very HARSH cleaner. There is a reason they boast it can kill HIV in 30 seconds. Unless you are careful with it and dilute it properly like Tracy has said it is possible it might screw up your finish. You can correct me if I'm wrong but I'm not about to test it at full strength on my car. Make sense now?

hat under coating should, and as i did, romove from the whole under carriage.i ground everything down, wheel wells,,,,everything. Cleaned up[ nice, but its dirty, takes a bit of work. Underneath that undercoating, if a little water got under it, it will rust the s h i t out your car. i found a couple spots, it was like pealing off tar, good clean steel underneath....then wammmm small rust spot, not the surface kind either. i patch new stell there just for fun. but i don't like the undercoating on a car thats oner 10 years old.

Only on the Ontario board do we have genius's recommending Spray Nine and rubbing alcohol on paint.

Go ahead and see what rubbing alcohol will do to your paint...

and get back to us.

Hey CruznBruzn. First of I was joking about the alcohol second of all it won't do a damn thing to the paint except for clean off any debree or waxes. What in the helll do you think the alcohol wipes that come in the bug deflectors are for, uhhh??? TO wipe the paint surface clean! Seriously...do you think rubbing alcohol will harm you paint??? It won't!!! Man only you would come up with a comment like that. Always so on the ball with you eh??? LOL

Uhh, shouldn't you get back to buffing some lady's Sunfire Monkey boy?

There's a reason why most people wash and detail their own cars, and your a shining example of what that reason is.

Have a Nice Day!

There is no reason for us to quarrel here. I wouldn't want to start a battle of wits with you , cause it is obvious you are at a great disadvantage. Grow up !! You haven't got a clue. Little boy. Why is it that almost all kids your age have no respect. This is a learning web site and I think the only thing you have learned is to be rude, and childish. Go back to school and learn some manners.

In fact if you have nothing constructive to say...They I would rather you didn't say anything at all.

And just so you know, I didn't recommend the Spray Nine either. Read before you post, please and thank you.

This is why I have become reluctant to give anyone on this board advice about anything even when they ask. Everything turns into a hen party after which everyone says "Oh, I was only joking." And as for Spray Nine...everyone who's actually worked detailing cars please raise your hand..yeah, that's what I thought. I'd be careful who you call "geniuses". I'd go head to head in a battle of wits with you any day.

Hahahaha, your funny.
I'm not the one washing cars for a living. Maybe you should be the one who needs to go back to school.

By the way, you missed a spot.

We will ignore the rest of Cruzin bruzin's replies from her on in.

Alex as for the spot you put the alcohol on just rub some wax on it.

You tell him Tracey!!!

Ok so the rubbing alcohol will damage the paint. Kaz, will the spray nine at full strength damage the finish..? I'm still curious about that one.

It may. I was at Canadian tire today and decided to read the bottle. It may, but as Tracey stated. Dilute it like 20:1 or something. I didn't mean to come of harsh Sinoed. Jsut didn't understand what HIV had to do with cleaning a car Hope I didn't offend you. If so, sorry. As for the rubbing alcohol, They put rubbing alcohol wipes in with most aftermarket plastic peices, such as bug deflectors, vent shades, taillight covers etc. all thjat use double sided tape come with one of these pads. Any solvent that you put on paint will cause it to whiten up a little. That is a sign that you have removed all the waxes and other coatings on the paint. A little polish and better then new. I don't just wash cars either. I paint and body repair, buff, wet sand, mechanical repair, electrical, I also take care of all incoming stock and billing statements so don't get confused by others stupid comments "CURZN BRUZIN"S" that is. I also build Pro Street Drag cars such as the one attatched below. 10.40's in the 1/4. HAs over 600 hp and about 575ft lbs of torque. This is what I do...This is what I love. As for schooling I did my turn in college and crap. I enjoy cars, been working with cars for almost a full 20 years. About as long as CruzinBruzin has been alive,. HMMM what does that tell you. Enough explaining my ways. I can guarentee that any car I refinish will look better and run better then anything mister big mouth has to offer anyone here. These are the thing I love to do. Don't bash what I love people. It really ticks me off. Who knows one day, one day.

Thats ok, no offense taken. I've just used that stuff before so I wanted to stress that if you're going to try it you'd better follow Tracey's directions! That stuff almost makes you pass out. Besides, you don't have to prove anything - we've seen that Prelude you did. I know where I'll be getting detailing done when I need it.

G-9332 ....................32 oz. $4.99 add to car

This is the stuff Buddy mentioned earlier on, it works better than Spray 9 and you don't have to worry about the overspray on the paint. I have used it and it works well.

Are you still harping on this?
If you stopped making comments on how young and uneducated you "think" I am, then I'll stop making cracks on your profession.

Kaz, I have nothing against what you do, If I could deal with cars everyday, i'd be doing it for sure. But you just jump to conclusions way too fast.

Oh...

And STRONGERthanALL is still a f*ck'n Buttmunch:lala:
