Electric Fan to Manual....?

Has anyone replaced their electric crap fan with an ol' belt driven one? If so any tips/tricks?

why do you want to switch? is your car fuel injected? do you have the sepantine belt setup, cause you wqill need to ditch that if you do have the serpantine.

anyway you will need a fan shroud for the rad and obviously a mechanical fan. a clutch fan is a good idea.

Now, i am not sure about the following....
i would guess you would have to rig up something in so that the computer thinks the fan is on, cause other wise it will throw a code.

if the computer doesnt throw a code when it tries to turn a fan that isnt working (or in your case not there), i guess it doesnt matter. i dotn know much, if any about the FI cars and the computer/code stuff.

hopefully that helps you some what

It wouldnt throw a code without the electric fan..darbleinad is right about the shroud..Also make sure that the fan is at least 1/3 inside the shroud..If youre worried about non computer operation of the fan its very easy to convert..

no its an 86 carbed, mine is an 85 and its the same setup without the electric fan, anyways, my brother has been having alot of trouble with it over the years and i just wondered if converting it would cause any probs, no serpentine belt, but what about the sensors......see i'm sensor-less ......soooo this is where i wonder if that would pose any problems.

theres a lot of ways of converting..All you need is a relay,a switch and a temp sensor..I special ordered the Hayden adjustable fan switch from Can tire ($40)so I can make the fans turn on at the temp I want automatically..It also came with the relay and wiring with an option to override the switch..If you want something simpler, you can get a pre-set temp switch..Mine was a TPI and I made the fan so it turns on on factory setting in case the Hayden switch fail..
