Staying cool this summer
Staying cool this summer
I’d like to do some mods to my car this summer, specifically a “Throttle body coolant Bypass” https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/t...ntbypass.shtml, and install the Derale dual fan control relay http://www.gmtips.com/3rd-degree/dox...ool/derale.htm.
I’d like to know if any of you guys have tried any of these mods?
Was it successful? Any hints or tips?
For instance, I’ve looked at my throttle body, and it doesn’t quite look exactly as that shown in the tech article. I don’t want to start moving hoses around, start the engine up, and find coolant spurting out of an outlet like a hose cause there was a slight change from an ’88 throttle body to an ’89.
I’d love to install that dual fan relay, but need some input before I spend the time or money.
Thanks

The TB coolant by-pass is fine to do but you would be hard pressed to convince yourself of any noticeable gain in performance. There is some dyno data kicking around the internet but it is shakey at best.
As far as the mod itself, it is very easy to accomplish. Just connect the two coolant hoses together with a double male connector and two hose gear clamps.
For he manual fan switches, visit the cooling board and read the many stickys and posts on fan switches, there is plenty of info there.
Have you done any other free mods yet? There is so much more to be had for virtually free that you can do in very little time.

I did the Universal Griffin Rad mod that alot of peeps talk about on this bored. It was straighte forward and effective. I think that I will also go for an alluminum water pump for the weight svings as well, though.
