Bought a 86 Camaro

Picked up a 86 Camaro last week. Has a 305 and 700R4. Body is in great shape, motor just needs a new cam (has a .488" lift cam... doubt it will pass etest), intake and carb. Picked up a 208@.050" w/.440" lift cam today, and hope to swap it in tomorrow if the weather is good. Just plan to keep this a driver, with no big plans for it (maybe).

Got the car for only $300 from a guy I know

good score Kevin. $300 looks great for that car, especially if it runs and drives.

.488 lift in a 305 is hardcore especially with an automatic. does it have a higher stall convertor? i agree with you, emissions could be an issue with that much cam in a 305. good luck with the car. keep me posted.

Emmissions shouldn't be an issue at all...it's a V6 car with a V8!...it's call Hot Rod!

It would only be considered Hot Rod if it were a 350 and not the 305. It has to be a engine size that did not come in that vehicle from the factory, which in 82 those did get 305's obviously. So for it to be considered Hot Rod status it would have to be a 350 and not a 305. But you could always tell them it is a 350, and give them a fake engine cast # most Techs dont' even look.

BTW! Nice buy for $300. :hail:

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm going to put it through e-testing as a hot-rod for sure. I know the car is missing some emissions parts (charcoal vapour filter thing as well as no egr), so the easiest way to get around it is as a hot rod.

Mark, I need a headliner as well Sags at the back. I'll try gluing it, or see whats in the local wrecker.
