hatch problem?

it was really hot the other day so i wanted to take my roof off, i hit the hatch button, and hatch wouldn't come up

then later i'm just driving and it pops open, so i jump out and shut it...

was it just the heat?

i heard the motor going very slow, and it took about 30 seconds for it to actually initialize to go up, it just saw down wihle it was open...

suggestions?

Sounds like gremlins to me... is your hatch button sticky at all or do you have a remote hatch switch?

yeah and another thing... my passenger side power window keeps just stop working all the time... the ****ing buttons in the middle won't control it half the time and it works only when it wants... any ideas on that? i had the passenger side window rolled down today and i couldn't get it up, had to wait and then it started working...

From: "No one cares if you're in before the lock!" - Best quote ever.
For the hatch, just convert it to manual - the power release will still work fine, and as long as you have good struts, the hatch will still raise magically...it's what I had to do when my motor f*cked up on me. It's really simple...just ind the point at which the hatch motor/lock pulls own to, and score it/mark it somehow...then detatch the motor from the lock mechanism, and drill/screw/weld whatever the lock at the low point of the pulldown (test the distance beforehand, of course). The hatch will need to be pushed down to close now, but the power unlock will still work, and should still spring up and open (mine does, anyways). I hated waiting for that damn motor to begin with...it has about as much power as the 2.8 under the hood! :P

If you're having problems with your hatch not even beginning to release as you push the button and your pass window not working all the time I'm really thinking its a connection in your centre console. However your hatch may also just be on its way out too from how you describe...

serioulsly dude, i'll vote with rega and say electrical. best case, loose contact. worst case, motors going south... i had a problem with my lighter - plug in my phone or the lighter and a big spark show would result... swapped the barrel out for a new one, made sure all connections were fine, and works like a charm.

remember the electrical drain youre having?I bet its still a grounding or short problem. The hatch release shouldnt function when the car is running(on drive). The hatch works with a ground wired switch..

An electrical problem really doesn't explain why the hatch only opened long after he hit the button. If it was a wiring problem then it would open whenever it wants. Even then, something would have to be really screwed up in this mint car for it to electrically release while in gear.

I'd still lean towards the struts. The latch may have released but weak struts may not pop the hatch up right away. Then he takes off, and when he hits a certain bump, up it goes. My struts are on the weak side. When I hit the button it unlatches, but usually doesn't come flying up (sometimes it does, the light spoiler makes that scary). If I forget I unlatched it, it could come flying up (and it has, nearly hitting the garage door overhead) at any point.

As for the window, the first thing I'd do is pop the switch when it's acting up and short it out to see if the rest of the system is okay. It could just be a dirty switch.

well, my struts are kinda shot... depends on the temp out whether it'll stay up or not, and it definitely doesn't go flying up, but if i leave the hatch for too long without pulling it up, the latch will suck it back down again. was kinda frustrating before i had the remote wired to pop it from outside...

Haha, that's my favorite part about our cars. I love telling my buddies to come check out my motorized hatch and then watching it come up and go right back down immediately half the time due to worn struts.
