I know of an 88' AU4 for sale, and oddly enough another players cup car. How much are they worth? Both run, and drive, both need a little work but nothing a weekend and a paint job won't fix

A lot of them have been worked pretty hard and may not line up properly depending on how many times they've been hit. It really depends on the state of the car and what's been done to it.
The ones I've seen for sale around here ranged from about 6 to 10 thousand and the owners were having difficulty selling them.
It would be nice to find an R7U 1LE car that was more or less in original condition and not beat to schit. Frequently, they are gutted and have a larger cage installed or the factory cage removed altogether.
As for price, I'd say it's very negotiable; try and find out how long the car has been for sale and make an offer.
There doesn't seem to be a great collector market or even an awareness that A4U and R7U cars exist. People often seem to be more impressed by things like a particular thirdgen being one of 7,893 red ones with drum brakes imported into Canada in a given year..lol

Okay thanks. One has been raced, and it infact looks like the hood doesn't line up, could be smashed or just needs to be aligned more, but it has a log book and is documented. The other one however is almost mint, if it was raced it was never wrecked, but the history is unknown.

George is correct about not many people knowing about these cars. Value is good right now and a ghreat time to buy one IMO because the dollars are not there yet. Documentation is a very important part of any specialized car such as these and so far it seems the Players cars driven by the more famous drivers are generatiing more interest so that could be something to look into. Many of these cars saw plenty of race duty long after the Players days so finding one with all the factory interior and so on is not easy. Obviously the closer to original it is the higher the value.
There was a mint restored 1LE R7U car that sold last year for close the $30k Canadian but it was a cherry ride and a 1LE.
Aside from that its really up to you. I hummed and hawwed for a while before buying mine and since I did... I couldn't be happier. I started putting the documentation together and its race history and i got the entire 89 season on tape. Its been loads of fun and the car is becoming much more precious to me everyday. I would contact Mark_ZZ3 here on the boards and check out his site. He is a great guy with boatloads of knowledge on the Players series. Heres a link to his site. Good luck!
