Advice Please

I have a 89 iroc with blow by Just wanted to know what you guys would do rebuild or swap it out with a create. My budget is close to $5000.00 The car is still in very nice shape...other then discussed. I don't mind going to carberated but will a breather fit under our hoods?

One other thing as for right now Im getting oil shooting outta dip stick under hard acceleration...do you think adding a oil catch can and maybe a locking dipstick will help, as the engine is still very strong?

Re: Advice Please

I'd do an LS1 if I did a swap, seen one on Craigs List for 2500 with computers and harness.

Re: Advice Please

With a 5k budget is definitely go LS. I have to replace my son's 5.3 in his Z71 and have been contemplating a rebuild on his current motor for the GTA. Love the tried and true small blocks but LS Just makes more sense IMO.

Re: Advice Please

I'd also look at an LS swap, but you'll need to figure a transmission with it unless yours in in GOOD shape.
Try and get a complete pull-out. I'd recommend buying all new F-boy FEAD (front engine accessory drive) as it will save a lot of hassle. You may be able to run the truck stuff with some aftermarket accessories. Do a search.
You can make your own harness to save as well.
I got a complete 6.0L from a truck with the computer and harness for $1,000CAD.. You'll need to figure out how to program the computer as well.. make a list as all the 'small' stuff does add up quickly.

Re: Advice Please

Don't pay the crazy price for a locking dipstick when all you need is a generic spring from your local hardware store (similar to a single GM throttle return spring). Use a small hose clamp to attach one end of the spring to the dipstick tube and attach the other end to the dipstick.
