hey guys.....this guy down my road owns this 78ish cutlass ....its a boat of a car elt me tell ya....but its in good shape and soudns like it runs strong....iv seen it do a few burnouts and it look rpetty healthy.....its a automatic and i got no diea what kidna motor that thigns got in it.....iv heard a 350 but im not absolutly sure.....anyways hes got glasspacks and headers or somehtign cuzz his cars real loud...kidna sounds dumb its so loud.....anyways i pull out of the local mall tongith and who do i se riding my ***.....none other then him in his green cutlass....i jsut cruis at about 60km/h in 4th gear jsut elating her cruise along....when we stop at a red light and he changes alnes and pulls up beside me.....i look over and hes sjut reving the **** out of his car......so were both waitign for the lgiths hes reving the crap outta his car and im getting redy to launch my 89 305tpi 1le iroc 5spd......the lgith goes green and i let her rip...i get some wheel spin and im at about his door.....i shift into 2nd and gain and bit and then thrid and im jsut pulling on him by the time i hit 4th we were doing about 80km/h onto an open country road i shift into 5th and hes at about my rear quarter panel....at about 130km/h i shut it down and flash my lgiths......i beat hom by about a car lenth and maybe a half.....not bad for a 305tpi 5spd that i just got and still learnign how to drive.....

 

i hit 130 right before i shift into fourth why would you be in fifth?
What kind of gears do you have in your rear end?

I have an G92 LB9 5-speed which means dual cats and 3.42 posi r/e. When I redline 1st, 2nd and 3rd my speedo is creeping up on 100mph for the shift to 4th -- not 80kmh... are you sure you got your numbers right ?

Also, in future and for your own good DON'T race in 5th gear unless you want a tranny rebuild. 5th gear in the Borg-Warner T5 is known to sefl-destruct on power shifts.
