HELP, my GTA left me walking!!!
HELP, my GTA left me walking!!!
Driving down the street and it just died out of nowhere, then it won't restart. I can hear the fuel pump cyling, but only after you turn the ket to the start position, it doesn't prime like my TBI car does? But I still have ruled out bad pump because I do hear it. So I'm thinking it's an ignition issue. Well, wrong I guess too, because I pulled the number one plug wire and hooked up a plug to it. It sparks. Darn I felt sure it was just a bad module. So last resort tonight, I grounded the terminals on ALDL connector and I get a code 34. Uhmm, well this is a Mass Air car, bbut the book I have says it is a MAP code!!! Is my ECM fried here or what. What is a code 34 on an '88 5.7 tuned port Pontiac??? Car had to be towed, and it is sitting in my driveway out of commission. Please help guys.
85-90 TPI cars have a MAF sensor....... check my sig for the best MAF made........
The maf wont make your car not start....... You can even drive around with your MAF disconnected.......
Since it went out all of a sudden...... Id look at the coil, distributor, and fuel pump first........

thanks for the info, and by the way, Autozone says that MAF isn't availible, but their price is only like 60 bucks if it was! I work for a parts store too, and I can get a Borg Warner number that crosses to that MAF. Is that really a high performance one??? If so, is it the inside diameter that is different or what?

Not being nit-picky, but thought I'd clarify two things, MAF was used up to '89, and bad MAF will keep the engine from staring properly. But disconnecting the electrical connector on the MAF, should allow you to start the engine (if the MAF/circuitry is at fault).
SInce you have a MAF code, and the engine won't start, I'd first disconnect the electrical connect on the MAF, if it starts, then troubleshoot from there (bad MAF, bad relay(s), wiring). If no difference, look elsewhere.
