Air filter question

I seen alot of pics of a TPI engine with a K&N filter cone directly on the throttle body. I replaced the stock dual filters with K&N's and not noticed any improvements. Will it be better with the cone type?

The cone type draws hot air from the engine bay where as the stock setup will pull in cooler air from the front.

I personally dont recommend the cone filter.
