383 supper rammed and rpm's...

I am just wanting to know how much further can you get in rpm's with the super ram set up over ltr set up on a 383?? I have read that ltr's are not the best for a 383, but would like to know from anyone who has done it.

I also have AFR 190 heads and would get a cam to match it.

Also did any one notice losing any low end torque after switching and did you get more top end.

I am thinking the 383 will take care of the bottem end and I am hoping the supper ram can keep the rpm's up.

If your goal is rpms, the super ram is probably one of the less reasonable choices, it sure will feel good when you put it on simply because LTR's just dont feed a 383 well, heck they dont feeed a 350 well, but after a couple weeks when you want more you'll wish you would have saved the money. I recommend an LT1 intake, you got low end power to spare, and tons of upper end UMPF to make, the LT1 should do that for ya at a better price than the super ram.

OK, What about a LTR set up like this..
Hogged out plenum, SLP siam. runners half way down, and a Accel intake?
Would that help out your top end at all or is just a battle that really aint worth fighting?

Would the above LTR set up be fine for a 355?

Also lets add a 150 wet shot of nitrous to the 355 LTR set up, How will that effect the rpm band?

Thanks, Eric

With the superram with the AFR's and the LPE 219 cam, I shifted at 6500. That cam and intake pulls to 6200-6300.

You need to decide what you want.

For a great street engine that makes good HP and a TON of TQ, go 383, SR, AFR 190's, LPE 219. The Vette guys are running from 11.5-low 12's at 116-118 with this setup, and it is GREAT on the street. I have the setup on a 355 and love it. I wanted to put it on a 383 SO bad, but funds did not allow it at the time. You can rev STRONG to 6000 rpm's with this combo. I have been shifting at 6250 rpm, but the Vette guys are telling me better times can be had shifting at 5800-6000 rpm.

If you want the high HP at high rpm's, I'd go 355 with the AFR 190's, MiniRam or LT1 intake, and a big cam. Get the right cam and you can shift at around 7000 or more rpm's and be making a TON of HP. Make sure your bottom end and valvetrain can handle the rpm's though. And you will need 4.11 or so gears and if you have an auto tranny, a high (3500 or higher) stall.

Neither setup is "better". It just depends on your goal. The first setup, I can tell you from experience, is GREAT on the street, makes a lot of TQ and good HP. The latter setup will be faster, will require a stout bottom end and valvetrain, will NOT have the low end TQ, but will make MAD HP and rev like crazy. Just depends on what you want.

Thats about what I have been gethering from all the searches I have done. I keep forgetting to mention that I will be running with a t56.

Another set up I think would run like a bat out of hell would be a 383 minirammed with 4.10 gears in the 6 speed. It seems like all the 4th gen guys are running those gears and still have plentty of top end.
The 383 and 4.10 should take care of going and the miniram and 6 speed should keep you going...IMO.

Is any body running a 383 miniram???

How is the idle with that cam in there, can you tell its there? I think of the two I would go with the first choice but I have a Nx wet kit and I have heard bad things about Nitrous and the Super Ram. I also do have a set of AFR 190's that will be used.

I run the SR with AFR 190's on a 357 and a LT4 Hot cam.
When I ditch the TES headers it will be much better, but now it pulls great to 6000 and makes ALOT of torque down low. I run it with a Yank 3200 converter and 3.73 gears. So far it seems like a good match. You can check traction at the door though.
