heat damage

i drive around and my car gets to 220 and sometimes almost to 260. at what temp does the engine get damaged?

Your engine isn't abiding by any rules, its not going to break at 261° the first day you hit it, its going to give when how and where it spontaneously wants to.


And what will happen first hopefully is your radiator cap will pop and spew hot steam and water all over burning you and soaking your engine bay (not that hopefully you get burnt, but that this is the best case scenerio). If for some reason that never happens you might blow a hose, you might blow a head gasket, but eventually you'll warp your heads and say "Damn why did I let that happen when i could have stopped my engine from passing 240°


I recommend fixing the cooling problem, there is now an entire forum devoted to such quesitons
