Does anyone know anything about in-line fuel pumps?????

Last night I used a stethoscope to listen to the fuel pump in my car. It only gurgled slightly when turned on. I don't want to drop the tank and all the work associated with that to put in a new pump. Can I just install one of the high-volume in-line pumps instead? Does anyone know if that works? In theory it should, right?

nope, if you install an in line pump with a dead or dying in tank pump you will kill both pumps

Why is that? Is it because the in-line pump may potentially be pulling gas through a clogged in-tank pump filter? So I should just go ahead and replace the intank pump? Even if I disable the in-tank pump since it's dead anyway and used an in-line, would that still kill the in-line?

in line pumps are not built to "suck" or "pull" fuel.....they are designed to FLOW or PUSH fuel.

so if you have a half dead in-tank pump trying to feed fuel to an in line pump that can only push fuel.....if the in-tank isn't working correctly the in line will be sucking in air and it will die very quickly
