ok I have an 89 TPI 305 Trans am. last week my car died on me. it wouldent start so i sprayed some carb cleaner into the throttle body and then it started. i figured it was the fuel pump. i changed it and tried to start it and again it didn,t start. do i have to prime the pump or anything? if not what else could it be. it still starts on carb cleaner.

 

Does the pump run for 2 seconds when the key is first switched on?
Did the engine die again after spraying the starter fluid in it, or did it keep on running?
