New to board, TPI/SBC question

I have a small block chevy crate engine that was fitted with a TPI intake and the Holley Commander 950 ECU.

I never seemed to make as much out of my engine as some of the people here are (stock internals). Is there a chance I had a milder cam or worse heads in my crate motor?

I don't know about the cam, but the heads were GM casting #10110810.

I have since installed a heads/cam package, which is waiting to be tuned. Sounds are in my sig.

Sam

wow, thats a nice sound clip... what kind of exhaust u have there, cause it doesnt sound like much is there to restrict that...hehehehe anyway... um, i have no idea, somone is gunna have to go check the casting number out... but it just sounds like the engine could of been a gm goodwrench where they just put in basic stock stuff, i really have no idea... there could be a number of things that was wrong with the old combo.. but u have all that nice stuff and its in a Datsun/Nissan 280? wow, thats got to be hot **** right there... have fun with that car and welcome to thirdgen... peace

I looked up those heads on nastyz28.com and mortec.com and got those results. In other words they are either really horrible 86-91 305 swirl port heads, or some kind of 350 head, perhaps even a swirl port. Dunno which site is right here. You can tell if it's swirl port by looking down a head port with the intake off. You should see a big turbulence inducing vayne in there.

And yes, i'd say there's a good chance that it also came with a peanut cam in it too. Even just a peanut cam is enough to cripple any engine.

Exhaust was is a 2.5" in to a 3" single by the tranny bellhousing, single 3" all the way back to a Dynomax SuperTurbo.

The sound is downright disturbing :hail: It should clean up its act with some tuning.

Hey, I'm L98-z on ls1.com the one who was asking you about your engine, how much longer until tuned. I know you said you were hoping for 425, I want to see how it comes out.

Alright, looking forward to it then.
I'm sure I'll see the results either here or on ls1.com
