There is some idiocy at work here, but it isn't on your part. Ought-Tow-Zone is living up to it's well-earned reputation for having a full line of neon effects and air fresheners - and little else. Check with your local dealer for the correct part number and availability or call a real auto parts house.

By the way, show this to the toll-booth retiree at the AutoZone and tell them you need a device just like this one. It'll be as much fun as asking a moron to sit in the corner of a round room.... There are some qualified people at some of their stores, but they certainly aren't in the majority and apparently none of the skill transfers by osmosis.

Sorry, all. I didn't mean to really go off like that, but I've just about had my fill of these places. I've heard some of the worst advice and information doled out at the Pep Boys and AutoZone counters to people who genuinely needed some assistance. Some of these auto parts "grocery srtore" people have absolutely no business interacting with the public, and need to be sued once or twice more to really shut them the hell up.

I've been told that there were no fuel injected '86 Trans Ams, that there were no GM 'B' cars with rear disc brakes (funny, since I have TWO of them), that LT1s don't have distributor caps and rotors, and numerous other bits of misinformation. At least I know better. I feel sorry for anyone who isn't sure and truly expects qualified assistance there.

Vader, There is one thing you must understand here. Just because its an auto parts store, it doesnt mean they carry every part for every car. Certain stores ( like AZ ) only get parts from one vendor for rare- asked about parts like egr solenoids. So when the counterperson tells you its not avail and doesnt give you a part number its because the company that manufactures the parts just doesnt manufacture that part for that car. It doesnt mean the guy is a bafoon and is saying that 91 camaros didnt come with egr solenoids. Trust me every time I pick up that damn phone and say "Thanks for calling AutoZone, this is Rob, how may I help you?" I know Im in for a ride. Ive had plenty of ppl cuss me out on the phone because we dont carry a part for their car. I do agree with you that a lot of the ppl behind that counter are pretty stupid, but how many car-knowledgable ppl are goin to work at a parts store for little or no money. Truth is most of the guys that get hired at my store dont know sh*t, but when you need someone to man that cash register you have to take what you get sometimes. Just trying to give you the heads up on why you wont get a part sometimes. Frankly an egr valve solenoid for a 91 camaro is not a highly diserable part that some diyer is goin to buy or think they need.

That probably applies to you. Too bad some of your knowledge doesn't rub off onto some of the cash register tenders. I understand the supply chain and the availabilty issues, but I've been told emphatically that there were no FI '86 TAs, etc. Apparently, the training doesn't include the phrase "That part is not available to us". At least that would be closer to reality, and not leave the shopper feeling hopeless in the quest to repair his/her problem.

I also don't envy your position - you must see some real winners, and have to deal with them with a smile...
