Sounds like somebody didn't have a clue. There is a rest at the bottom of the sending unit, which I assume you are calling the "hanger deal" . There should be a rubber insulator on top of the rest for the pump to sit on. Then on the bottom of the rest, will be the pump "sock" or filter screen. It presses onto the bottom of the pump, and sandwiches the rest and the insulator, between the sock and the pump.

the bottom insulator deal under the pump was gone and at where the pump outlet port connects to the steel line inport theres a wierd metal and pastic deal that looks like a master cylinder cap, only in smaller scale, this ,must be a V-6 or TPI thing, instead of normal thick walled section of black hose with plastic black clamps, theres two short sectios of red/orange hose inside the master cylinder shaped deal and no clamps, and the idameter of the steel line end is necked down small like down to only about 1/4"

bad restriction, not like found on TBI units.

any ideas ?

i think i want to replace with V-8 unit to lose this restriction

The master cylinder looking thing is a Pulsator and most F/I cars from the factory had one. They are prone to leakage and new pumps will come w/ the high pressure hose you described. As far as the "restriction", I have not seen a sending unit that did not neck down at the end of the tube. Thats where the hose or pulsator sits, and its about the same size as the outlet of the fuel pump, so even if you did find a bigger one, the pump would then be the restriction. I have seen cars run 11's in the 1/4 on stock sending units, so I wouldn't worry about it.
