Possitives or negatives of a single profile cam.

I found a good deal on a cam kit (springs, retainers, and locks) but it is a single profile cam. The spec are as follows: duration@.050 222/230, lift .504/.504, LSA 112, centerline 108. Is there any + or - of the same lift on the intake and exhuast? Also, if I was to install 1.6 rocker arms on the exhuast side will that help the situation, or install 1.6 on both sides and keep the lift the same?

Single profile usually refers to the duration so that is actually a dual profile cam. Might be a bit big for your 305 with current set up and a 2.73 gear. Summit has a tpi kit with a 204/216 duration cam, lifters, retainers and springs for about $160.

Note the 40 horse gain over the stock cam in a 305 tpi.

Sorry sig is a little out of date. Up the gears to 3.73 and a 3200 stall. Rpm range for this cam is 1800-5400. I think it should be just about right. Thanks for the clairification on the single and dual profile. So this now dual profile indentical lft cam, is the same lift on intk an Ex a good thing?

I am not an expert on cams but of course the higher lift gives more flow. I have noticed that many tpi cams have much greater lift on the exhaust side and I not sure why but if I had to guess it would be because of the poor flowheads and exhaust needs the extra flow to clear out the spend charge. I also noticed that the longer the duration of the cam the less the spread is in the lifts or there is not spread at all.

Sorry I could not give precise tech info on it. I think either comp or crans cams have some tech articles on cams on their website, might be worth checking out.

Yeah, the longer exhaust duration is to help a weak exhaust port/sysytem. Despite the advrtised rpm range you stated, I think it is still too big.
Going by what I learned when shopping for my first cam:
Rated powerbands tend to be iffy. If you compare it too my LT4 hot cam with 218/228 duration rated 2000-6000 rpm, and that cam with more duration rated for far less rpm, you see how the numbers get conflicting.
The powerband can be looked at with the intake duration #. As the number get higher, the powerband goes up.
Just going by real world experiences and what others have used, 220 degrees of duration seems to be strong till about 6k. Many use a 224/230 cam and they all seem to be strong from 6 to 6500. Engines making power in the 7k range run big 230ish cams.
Now this is just going by what I've seen personally and here.
I am also no expert, but I tend to go by what people have actually experienced over certain rated figures.

If I were to recommend a cam for your 305, I'd look for something around a 210-214 intake duration with about the same or a little more lift as the cam you're looking at. 112 lsa works well too.
