Fairly simple really. Can't help you with pulling off the TPI since I've never worked on one, but I can take you from pulling off the base.

1. Remove coolant hoses from intake manifold
2. Remove EGR and all other accesories still bolted to the manifold
3. Remove the intake manifold bolts, bag/label them
4. Pull the intake manifold off, bee ready for some coolant to come out, have some rags ready to sop it out of the lifter valley
5. Remove the intake manifold gaskets, or whatever is left of them, throw them away
6. Remove the valve covers (2 bolts on each side of valve cover IIRC, unless they are centerbolt covers then remove the 4 or so bolts in the center)
7. Take the gaskets off and throw them out
8. Loosen the rocker arm nuts enough to move them off the springs/pusrods
9. Remove the pushrods and put them in some type of organizer (cardboard box works well, and label them), they have to go back where they came from
10. Remove the exhaust manifolds/headers if you have not already
11. Remove plugs and plug wires
12. If not done already, remove all accessories bolted to the front and back of the heads
13. Remove head bolts and bag/label them
14. Pull heads off, a long screwdriver may be needed to pry them off, place the screwdriver in one of the intake ports (but not too far) and pry up
15. Remove all gasket material from the deck surface
16. Remove the damper by taking out the bolts and using a damper puller
17. Remove timing cover by taking out bolts (air ratchet is good for this)
18. Remove the three bolts on the top gear of the timing gear set
19. Pull the gear off along with the chain
20. Pull the lifters out of their bores by using a dentist pick and a set of pliers (unless you will be reusing the lifters, then do NOT use pliers on them)
21. Pull the cam out and keep it straight and level when pulling it out, remeber don't force it out, it will come out easy otherwise there is a problem, you don't want to knick up your cam bearings while pulling it out, so take your time
22. Install new cam after applying assembly lobe genourously to the lobes and bearing areas (keep it straight and level)
23. Drop new lifters into the bores, it doesn't matter where they go
24. Put new head gaskets on using the dowel pins to properly locate them on the block
25. Place the heads on the block using the dowel pins to locate them also
26. Put in the head bolts (that you bagged and labeled so you knw they're the head bolts) and torque them to spec
27. Install pushrods in pushrods holes
28. Put rocker arms back over the pushrods/springs
29. Tighten down nuts till they are snug (you will have to set valve lash later)
30. Put timing chain set gear back on and replace the timing cover
40. Place intake manifolds gaskets on heads (it might help to have a friend help with this)
41. Place intake manifold on heads and install the bolts, torque them to specs
42. Install damper
43. Install valve cover gaskets and bolt the valve covers back on
44. Hook all accessories, EGR, coolant hoses back up to the heads and or intake manifold
45. Install TPI

I'm sure I missed some things, feel free to add anything. Make sure to put all the bolts and small parts in baggies and label them well. If you have anymore questions, let me know.

You don't have to do it in any necessary order, but the valve has to be closed to set valve lash. This means you will have to rotate the engine (by hand or bump it w/ the starter) and set each valve when it is closed. CHP had an sidebar on it a couple months ago, I'll have to look it up, I think they had a pretty good sequence to go by.

Do yourself a favor and remove the hood first. Everything will be so much easier to get to without worrying about hitting your head.
