Friends selling his 92z think its worth it??

My freind is selling his 92z28 350 70k miles , leather interior. He wants 5k for it but the bad things about it is it needs a valve job it smokes at start up and hes usualy beating on his car he already went through 2 different rear ends. I got like 8k and i could fix the vavles right away maybe put some high performance heads.

If the body is nice and straight/clean yes thats an alright buy. Make him put new tires on it, and if he doesn't want to tell him to drop the price. 8k is good. You could pick up the car and then with careful planning, get all the breathing mods done and upgrade the valvetrain. Worried about his rearend - check out the tech articles on how to beef up the 7.65" for cheeeeaaaap.

Get the car. You know you want to

Hard top or T's?

Stronger motor, but harder to work on. With me being more of a fan of the third gens I'd stick with the 92, provided the motor, tranny and body are in good condition.

Yeah - I think the thirdgen Camaro puts the fourthgen into the ground when it comes to body style. The fourthgen camaros without the sports package remind me of door stops, lol. The firebirds are a diff. story.

Heres what I think.
You could spend your whole 8k on a fourthgen with near the same mileage as the 92z. This fourthgen will have an LT1 not an LS1, and the LT1 isn't a whole lot faster than the L98. The 92z has good mileage, and will allow you an instant 3,000 dollars for initial repair, and mods. That's fun! repairing and modding and seeing the car improve with every upgrade. By the time you're done, you'll blow the socks off an LT1! Looking better while you're at it!

Hardtop?! Me want! I hate my T-Tops. Freakin car sound like "Flex & Squeak inc."

I paid 6K for mine 4 years ago. IT had perfect paint (new paint), cloth seats, 5.7 with 60K.
