Dyno Questions...
Dyno Questions...
I'm going to put my GTA on a Chassis Dyno this week to get a baseline now that I have my new drivetrain in so I know what I'm dealing with before I do anything to the engine aside from my SLP Package.
I'm paying $45 for 3 runs. My question is since I have 3 runs, what are some things I can do while on the dyno? I don't want to mess with timing because it's perfect where it is but what else can I do? I can't think of anything
Also are there any little tricks or anything I can do to get the best numbers possible?

Adjust fuel pressure up and down from your baseline. This works best when monitoring data from a wideband captured from your previous pass.
Check the coolant temp before making a run. It'll tend to run hotter than normal due to lack of airflow with the car stationary inside an enclosure. Make sure you have a fan pointed right at the nose of your car on it's highest speed setting (found out this the hard way).
Lock the converter for higher RWTQ/HP readings. This is already programmed into my stock PROM. Could be in yours too.
What's the basis for saying the timing is perfect? It can take a bit of PROM work to optimize a timing curve.

I know the timing is good because I've tried ALLOT of different settings and what I have now has been the best for my car, I am sure of it.
I can't adjust the FP because I don't have and AFPR or a FP guage.
Thank you for telling me about the fan thing, my SLP PROM kick my secondary fan on at 200 instead of 220 but your're right about the higher RPM thing.
So when I dyno I leave it in 4th so it locks up? I've never been on a Chassis dyno before so I don't know how it works and what goes one...

You're going to want to have it in Drive (3rd) rather than Overdrive (4th). That way the tranny gear ratios won't mess with your readings ie (1:1 in drive). Also prevents short shifting from 3rd to 4th before reaching the RPM point up to which you want to take data. I run it up to 5500 RPM on my car.
Many places will not let you operate the car on the dyno so you don't have to worry about exactly what to do. They'll probably put the car in Drive and accelerate through the gears, starting to record data after the 2-3 shift. Make sure to tell them what YOU want them to do as far as a "not to exceed" engine RPM.

Alright I'll tell them to put it in 3rd and to not go any higher than 5600 since I KNOW I won't make power after that.
What did you mean about locking up the converter then?
