A/C Compressor R/R

I get no more cold air from my a/c. I noticed some oil on my garage floor and when I checked under my hood, I saw some oil behind the a/c compressor. I think I also noticed some wetness at the front where the a/c clutch/pulley is. Does that mean my compressor is bad?
Also, If I want to do this myself can I have an a/c shop evacuate the system, install an new compressor myself and then drive it to the shop to recharge?
Will I damage the new compressor if there is no oil in it?
I guess i need to change the compressor, and some other stuff but convert to r-134.
Please help thanks.

Sounds like a leaky compressor. Have a shop do the conversion.
They will evacuate and flush the system to get all the old oil and crap out then re-oil the system with R-134 oil and recharge the system. You have to be sure to flush the R-12 oil out. The two oils don't mix, they are like oil and water to each other and will eventually take the compressor out if not done properly.
