idle/sensor question

OK, the Iroc is acting up. Cranks over and starts fine for about 5 seconds, then the idle bogs down....to the point it even shut off once. Normally it'll stay running (barley) and the idle will kick back up, and then bog down again. Could be a vacuum leak, but I couldn't find or hear one. My question is that if it is one of the various sensors, how do I find the problem? I'm pretty good with the "mechanical", but not great with the "electrical" parts of the TPI. The fact that the idle goes up and down, again and again is what leads me to beleive it's a sensor of some sort....is this a good diagnosis?

:hail: Thanks.

I could always take it to my mechanic, but I like to figure it out myself.

Sounds like a vacuum leak to me... does the idle go up and down very noticeably, or is it a little more subtle? Getting a SES light with it? Check your IAC and your TPS (both on the throttle body). You may want to clean them if you don't have a vacuum leak. There are very good articles on the main thirdgen web page for this site on how to set them up. Hope this helps you some.
