Jet Pulleys

I was reading the new GMHP mag an they put some Jet Pulleys on the Blue Thunder 305 TPI 5 speed project. On the dyno the pullys gave 17hp and 13ft/lbs at the wheels. not bad for a cheap mod.

So Im wondering if anyone has then pulleys. For what I have heard pulleys arnt all the good because they slow down all ur other accessories. What u guys/gals think.

Pulleys are usually worth a tenth or 2 as their dyno would suggest. However, i'd say better than half the people that get 'em end up with serious charging issues and end up eating batteries and alternators for lunch.

My car has become a weekends only machine and i still don't think i'd put pulley's on it. What good is a tenth if you kill your car trying to sit in a traffic jam on your way to the beach.

Of course somebody who hasn't had problems is going to come in here high and mighty and say they were great and i'm crazy. Try a search though and see what the collective results bear out.

I dont have them, but you might wanna look into the march power and amp series. They wont cause charging problems.

its really not worth a dam thing. I felt a little more push in the pants, but i could of let a SBD go... im not sure right now... It killed everything. I ended up replacing my alt AND radiator (long story). You could get a overdrive pulley for the alt, but that would cancel out the whole idea of having underdrive pulleys in the first place. I still have the crank one on, and i have some power issues at night. I spent 80 on the pulleys, 220 for labor (didnt have any tools to do jack, but also got new belts put on) then 100 for a new alt and 40 for a used 86 iroc radiator. After all said and done, i wish i spent that money on a cat back, or something that will actualy do something other then make me scream. ... lets se... 220+80+100+40..... 440... son of a bitch... SEE, NOW YOU GOT ME ALL PISSED OFF!!! hehehehe
so take it from someone who made the mistake... dont do it.

Sounds like something else was wrong. I dont see how underdriving, aka turning the accessories SLOWER, can do damage. If anything it will make your accessories last longer. I can see it causing charging issues, but not doing any type of damage. The dyno doesnt lie, and 17 RWHP and 13RWTQ is pretty damn good for a simple swap if you ask me.

is spins slower which spins the alt slower. the alt doesnt put out a constant 105 amps. If its not spinning at what it was designed for, you could have some problems. The old alt worked fine, but wasnt putting out enuff power to supply the load, and it burnt out..... this let to overheating, which lead to the sidetank in the radiator to blow, and for anti freeze to leak all over the staging lanes at englishtown..... Trust me.... its a waste of money. 17rwhp.... thats pushing it. They must of greesed up the bearings in the dyno while they were running the car.... 17 is ALOT of parrisidic loss. oh well...
