Help guys, car es no running good...

Ok here's what's up. My car starts and runs but very very poorly. The whole engine shakes back and forth and sounds like there is a couple misses. Huge clouds of black smoke come out of the exhaust. I'm pretty sure this is indicative of a rich condition but this seems like waay too rich for me to do anything about. I've backed my AFPR down to about 40 psi. Brand new spark plugs. All injectors read 16 ohms and there is continuity in all injectors and harnesses. All the harnesses also seem to be firing ok with my "Fuel Injector and Harness Tester" and all injectors sounded ok with the multiple fire test on the tester.

I'm stumped.

Why do you say that?

I just put in a new Bosch O2 sensor about a month ago from autozone. I don't really trust their parts though. I'll check it out tomorrow with my multimeter though to see what's going on...

Also, the ecm doesn't even use the o2 sensor until it's warmed up so I don't think it's that.

Anyone else know how to remedy black exhaust smoke, and whatever drivability problem that's causing it?

Go through your ignition system. You've already replaced the plugs so start right after that.

Inspect your wires:
-------------------
First do a visual inspection. Look for frays, cracks, burns, or other damage. Look inside the boots at the terminals to make sure there is no rust or corrosion. If they appear good, get a continuity tester and check for good continuity. There shouldn't be any wires that are electrically open. Also, look for wires that display readings which are out of family. That is, if six wires display about 10 K-ohms and 2 show 10 mega-ohms, those 2 are junk.

Inspect your distributor cap and rotor:
---------------------------------------

First do a visual inspection. Look of obvious signs of wear and tear- cracks, burns, carbon tracking inside the cap (in fact, just do a cleaning inside the cap anyway). Also, make sure none of your terminals are loose. Lastly, in the dark, run your engine and look at the cap to see if you can see any sparks flying out any place. Check your rotor for the same conditions- wear and tear.

These are the easiest things to check first. Let us know if it worked. If not, we can continue on to the other components.

¿Que? ¿Su auto no es funcionar por chit? Tu tienne una problema grande, hombre. Pero no es demasiado difícil reparar...

(Hey, you started it...)

You may want to check the vacuum line attached to the FPR. If the diaphragm has ruptured in the FPR, raw fuel is being dumped into the plenum through the hose. Start the engine and pull the vacuum line to check it.

you may want to look into your coolant sensor. could be bad a reading realy damn cold and dumpin in a lot of fuel to compensate for being -40 degrees, or that what its thinkin.

the 2 above suggestions are real good suggestions. i'd look into both of them. muy bueno suggestions

are you using MAF or SD system in your Monte? if MAF, don't rule a bad MAF if ALL ELSE fails.

I'm running a MAF. I tried a MAF off my friends Z28 so I don't think that's it.

I installed a new CTS last month and pulled off the AFPR vaccum line last week to adjust the fuel pressure so I don't think it's either of those.

As of now I'm pretty sure it's water in the gas tank. It's been raining cats and dogs here lately and I left my fuel door open one night after dumping in a bottle of fuel injector cleaner...

I'll let you guys know what happens as soon as I can get back from the parts store with some Drygas...
