That cam looks good. Why not just get a set of better springs? Are they really expensive? Sorry, no past experiences here. -89IRO

Thanks guys, now you have all scared the sh*t out of me! I have an '86 Trans Am, 305 LB9 TPI, stock heads, exhaust, and headers. Recently I had a shop rebuild my engine and I had them put in a respectable cam without being too drastic. At the time I had no knowledge about cams. They put in a Comp Cam with specs: Duration @.050 211/221, Gross Valve Lift .442/.465, and Lobe Seperation 110.0. They did nothing to my heads except replace 2 valves, a lifter, and a rocker arm. After reading this post I am now seriously concerned. I was about to put new Hooker headers on, new y-pipe and cat-back. Now I'm thinking heads are now a priority. Also I just pulled my plugs and the #3 cylinder plug was caked in carbon buildup. Ahh, what a headache! What do you guys think?

I think you should start your own thread about your problems instead highjacking this guys post. It already has too much information that is misleading or wrong.

Maybe moderators should look into deleting posts that obviously contain false information.

Sorry, I didn't mean to "highjack" his thread. I was just throwing in my situation because they were on the topic of cams and heads. What do you mean about misleading or wrong info? Everything seemed to make sense to me. Then again, what do I know. If I was out of line by posting, sorry and just ignore me.

Here's the reason why I posted: I was thinking that since I put that cam in and didn't do the heads at the same time, maybe that's the reason why I now have oil on one of my plugs. This is the dilema that WishMaster now finds himself in. So maybe he could relate to this and see what will happen if he puts too big a cam in without touching the heads.

Wow Free bird,
that was a very informative post! Everyone here is looking for other opinions and I have to say yours was great...
How is BoDeaN hijacking a thread on a similar subject anyway?
Yeah, lets all start more useless threads on the boards reguarding the same subjects..
BoDeanN, I wouldnt think you have any issues, when the shop replaced the valves in your heads, I would assume that they tested the valve springs for the correct pressure and or shimmed the valves to provide the correct pressure, if it was needed.
Wishmaster, to try to make things totally clear, yes,,, you can put a cam with the .480 lift in your engine and not run into coil bind or anything like that, however as valves and springs wear the less pressure they are going to provide and you will be way more likely run into a valve float problem. Which is not a good thing!!
