flat tappet to hydraulic roller conversion

I have seen several different companies making retro fit roller lifters for a hydraulic roller cam to be fitted into an early style block, however, who makes the best? Has anyone had problems with a particular brand? Also, I have seen timing chain sets listed for 55-86 SBC and 87-92 SBC. Which one would I use with an early style block and a HR cam? Machining required?

Most retro cams are made to accept early timing chains and need no block machining. Best to check with the manufacturer. In my vette I am running a crane retro cam with iron dist gear so I did not have to change my dist gear. You will need shorter push rods and diff springs. You would be best to switch to a head that has screw in studs.
