exhaust popping

When I am cruising around at about 55 mph just maintaining speed my car pops, not loud but noticeable. It is more evident with my cutout open (of course). It is not consistent but it pops atleast every 3 seconds. Has anyone ever had this problem before? The car has not always done this so I was wondering if this indicates a lean or rich condition.

Thanks for any input.
Jonathan

Similar problem to what I just finish fixing - except my top speed was 70 - 75. It only happened on the hot days and ended up being the ignition module was not making proper contact to the stator assembly.

Thanks for the reply. I will try that out since I have been wanting to replace that module for a while now. I wonder if that has anything to do with why my car will not pull into upper rpms??? I guess I will see. Is there a certain brand I should try? Or just go to GM?

For me - I just picked up anything with a lifetime warranty - so AutoZone had a Wells unit. Next I need to change the coil since I found out what happens when they overheat one day.
