oil thru the PCV breather pipe...
Right my car is smoking like hell. I reckon there's oil comming thru the breather pipe because the intake seems really oily as does the breathe pipe.... There should be no oil there, right???
Second discouraging point. I live in the UK and fixing this car isn't as easy as it should be. My mechanic insists that if I take off the breather pipe and plug the hole left on the intake I'll blow an oil seal!!!!! I don't know how on earth he has worked that out!!!
I have just bought this car... I am SO incredibly dissapointed.
EDIT: I don't think it is the PCV valve... You can feel it clicking when the engine is on.

Just finished fixing that prob with my car too.
I changed the PCV on the DS of the car and the breather and filter on the PS of the engine. I also had to change the rubber seal on the dipstick and the rubber gromots that the PCV and breather fit into (for a better seal).
Just verify that the configuration of those vents are correct - if so - maybe a different oil. Defiantly do not plug the vents.

I'll see what the garage says, if they are totally unhelpful I'll do as you said.BTW, how much was yours smoking? Was it also only during hard acceleration?

This wasn't a permanent solution. I just wanted to test if it would stop smoking, because then I can be sure it is deffinatelly oil thru the breather pipe.
Thanks for the help

I have never seen the inside of a PCV valve, but I am guessing there is a spring in there somewhere. If the valve is quite old the spring might have lost some of its springiness and thus the valve may not be operating properly.
I have just bought this car, for all I know the PCV valve has been there for donkey’s years.

I am having the same problem with my Z28. I have a serious case of blowby. my PCV valve has oil all over it and the grommonts on both valve covers are soaked in oil. Oil is even coming back up the dipstick tube. I have replaced my entire PCV system and it still remains. I have a new GM engine in my car. it is the 350 TBI long block from Jim Pace Warehouse. Should I be buying a PCV valve for that engine or for my year car and orginal engine. I always buy PCV valves from Autozone and I bet that isnt good huh?
