well i'm having a bit a trouble here. my has a 78' 350 and were converting it to tpi. this i going into a friends 91 305 TBI RS. we have the motor, tpi unit, harness, sensors and exhuast off the IROC. well he want's use the tpi manifolds but a big problem exists. L98 tpi manifolds + exhaust = WAY better than stock tbi exhaust. the driver side dipstick on the block gets in the way. he want's the use the exhaust and manifolds off the iroc on the 78' motor. after all the money he spent he doesn't want to spend more on headers and a custom y-pipe. i definitely know where he's coming from. what can be done to the 89' manifolds to work with the 78' motor? the dipstick is located right by where the manifold "collector" is located. what kinda of dipstick has a chance of working? a flexable one? can anyone suggest one? anyone ever try this before??? thanks for all the help and advice offered.
please help this issue has brought the project to a near halt.

You could try some of the following:
- replace oil pan with dipstick-in-pan version. This was found on Monza's I recall and is available in the aftermarket.
- Get a few dip sticks and tubes and start bending. You might get one version that works well enough.
- Lokar dip stick ... thumbing through my rod magazines ... here is a link: http://www.yearwood.com/Enginetransd.../LOKED5001.asp
Now those aren't cheap, but they might solve your issues.

Find a set of older Corvette center discharge exhaust manifolds. Flow better than the 91's and no interference.
i'm not too sure if there even enough clearance for a flexable dipstick. i will cdouble check though.
the dipstick cannot be relocated? the 80's models block have the provision for the dipstick on the passenger side. (the hole for the dipstick). i think it will require more than the pan?????
if the that fails i will tell him to look for a cheap set of mainfolds or headers...
sucks

sucksI too had this problem as well you could drill and replace the dipstick on the pass side ( where it should be for a car of your age) and plug the driverside ....... good luck this is what i was going to do BUT i lucked out and bought a crate HO 350 instead

I had this problem on my 84 Z28. I used the original dipstick and bent it to run between the manifold and the block, the dipstick took a bit of jimming to get in every once in a while but it worked. Your friend should just buy headers
